I have been moderating communities for a long time. I started back in 2013, where I was a Co-Owner and managed the forums and the staff team. I would go through applications, and decide to allow them to go to the next stage, and I would keep the forums in a good standing, making sure we did not get any scammers, or bots. Shortly after, the owner had lost funds and had to shut down the server. Ever since then I was interested in helping out communities. I am not going to name every single server that I have experience with, but I will go through the ones that allowed me to learn how to do a better job at it.
Heroverse: This was a Minecraft server based around the Marvel universe, I had applied for Helper and was accepted. It was a brand new server, so they did not have a lot of staff. I was promoted to Moderator rather quickly, and I was put in charge of the forums team. The forums team would make rules, and manage the forums. We used Enjin as a website, and I learned how to deal with banning players on the forums, enforcing the rules, and going through reports and ban appeals. I learned how to tell between a fake evidence, and a real one. They ended up bringing an Owner that had shut down the server and stole it for himself, and I was then no longer a staff member.
Mineward: Mineward was a minigame based server, which was a work in progress. I had applied for Helper and then was offered the Admin position after my application was read through. This is one of the servers I have learned the most from. Here, I ran the Moderators. I would make the Moderator staff guidelines (essentially rules, how to punish, what not to do, etc.) and make sure that everyone was doing their job properly. I made a system on demoting staff members who were not doing their jobs correctly. It was a 3 warning point system, and then a demotion. I learned how to stand up and demote people despite what they would think of me. There, I had also run community management. Community management was a team that wanted to make sure that the community got the best out of the server. We would come up with fun events, make up the public rules, and overall make the community a fun place to be, and having the staff interact more with the community. After a while however, I had decided to resign.
Noble Craft: This is the server that I had been with for the most. I applied for Helper about a week after joining the server, and to my surprise I was invited for an interview. The interview went well, and I was accepted within a week. Here I went through the standard 1 month trial, and had learned a lot about moderating large communities. After about a month of being a Helper, I had passed my Helper test, and was promoted to Moderator. I learned how to punish people, (bans, mutes, warnings, etc.) and I knew better how to communicate to those breaking the rules. I learned how to get sufficient evidence to issue a punishment, and I had a lot of fun. After a while, they had opened the applications team, and I decided to join. There, I went through all staff applications, wrote my opinions on them, and discussed them with the other application team member. If we had decided to give them an interview, I would go on teamspeak with them and interview them. This taught me how to talk to new people and ask them questions. I was not afraid to reject people that had sent in applications that did not meet the standards, and I learned that as well. Sadly, after almost a year on their staff team, I was demoted due to inactivity. My laptop had broken but they did not give me enough time to get a new computer.
