Super simple suggestion to solve all the world's problems. MC-Market shoutbox is one of the key places to advertise, and also one of the key places to be warned!

We all know rule 3.6;
Do not advertise products and services which you yourself do not own, have the right to redistribute, or which has previously been advertised in the last 20 minutes.

It is ingrained into our minds by the countless chat moderators, moderators, and mini mods trying to keep the shoutbox rule compliant.

However, there's an issue. Shoutbox history only goes so far, so sometimes it caps at five minute worth of message history. You then have no way of knowing when you last advertised. Was it four minutes ago? Five? Fifteen minutes ago?

And, you take a gamble. And boom, either verbally warned or kicked and warned with points that will not expire.

This is the ultimate solution. No need to set a timer everytime you advertise, that is useless and a waste.

How will it work?
If your message contains any MC-Market link, it will activate a twenty-minute timer. Then, if any message contains a MC-Market link, whilst the timer is active, it shows your time until being able to advertise again.

https://mc-market.org*- Activates timer
http://mc-market.org* - Activates timer
www.mc-market.org* - Activates timer
https://www.mc-market.org* - Activates timer
http://www.mc-market.org* - Activates timer
(And any other MC-Market domain such as: mc-market.net, mc-market.com, and mc.mk)
https://youtube.com* - Does not activate timer

This suggestion would help all the users in the forums with ensuring they aren't violating rules. Because, limited message visibility makes it quite unfair to users, and we get warned for not being able to see past five or ten minutes most of the time. It would also lower the chat moderators' tasks of having rule 3.6 copied and ready to be pasted.

Thanks for reading,
Landon

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

This also would help prevent spamming of links when mods aren't online and help with confusion among users and moderators.

may also want to add mc-market.com and mc-market.net and I believe there's also a mc-mk one (I forgot the full domain).
Other than that, +1

It’s a lot easier said than done.

Staff scroll up in the chat to check when the user in question last ad was posted. It’s not that hard to spend three seconds scrolling up to previous messages. We don’t usually check chat logs just to warn someone for 3.4.

Sometimes you are linking something from MCM dbut it doesn’t have anything to do with an advertisement. What about then?
If I link someone a scam report, then want to post an advertisement....

What about when someone doesn’t use a MCM link in the shoutbox. Then proceeds to post a website link.

You could say this helps, even if we’d do some work. Yes, it could help. But it will cause more problems the solutions

I would say a good majority (90%) of advertisements are done via MC-Market links.

If I link a Scam Report, that’s still an advertisement, by definition. I have the intent for people to see the link, click the link, and read it. Yeah, it’s not a ‘service’, but it’s still advertising something.[DOUBLEPOST=1552305229][/DOUBLEPOST]

And in regards to chat history, that’s simply false. Most chat history caps at 10 minutes, so viewing previous ads is impossible most of the time (on a normal day, there is some days you can). And I’ve been verbally warned (and warned) for messages I physically can’t scroll up and see.[DOUBLEPOST=1552306374][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yee this is a good idea, as an alternative for now you could just type "timer 20m" into google and reset it every time you advertise or whatever.
I feel having a legitimate timer running for advertisements should not be needed. MC-Market has rules regarding a delay between advertisements, and therefore, should provide advertisers with tools to comply with their rules, not force us to third party tools to ensure we’re being compliant.

Yeah ik, I said as an alternative for now until they possibly implement something.

I agree with this, I know it might be tough to implement this but I am pretty sure the developers here can do anything. Because they made a tool here before and they made in minutes they are that fast and smart.

This would truly save time, as for checking ads I mostly scroll up to see if the 20 min passed. So seeing the timer would really help!

I don’t believe it’d be a super hard task, truly. The shoutbox addon already has a chat delay, so copying the basis of that code, with a regex scan of “if message contains mc-market” would be a rough sketch of an advertisement timer. Jayson could definitely do it, he’s talented.

I completely agree that is why I said the developers here are all talented and can do anything. And it for sure will be a helpful stuff.

I don't like the idea of us making it even easier for users to advertise their products or services exactly every 20 minutes in the chat, and I especially don't want to have to get something custom developed just for it.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
