Please read all

So this will be my first actual Minecraft server. Being around Minecraft for over 6 years off and on has given me some of the best times and experiences. Now I think its time for me to start my own community, not my first community but my first Minecraft one.

So basically this thread is me asking for advice for my upcoming towny server. I have a general idea of where I want to take this and have gotten quite far it making it happen.

List of what I/Nugget(partner) have done already:
  1. Logo Ready
  2. Forums&Website up and running(Needs to be tweaked once server is done to match the server theme)
  3. Discord running with 100+ members (Will loose a lot after the giveaway since it was a paid ad not related to minecraft)
  4. Organised and planned, we plan lot of things on a website called :Notion
  5. Mature owner(myself) and high standards with money to invest!
So I have a general idea for a towny server for crates/ranks and etc but I want to know what you advice me to do and how to go about this? what mistakes to stay away from, should i release the server with buycraft ranks or do it after a few weeks of release? how should i go about accepting staff etc.

Any advice will be helpful!

Donation stuff, it depends on what you want as owner.
Main questions, you'll have to ask yourself are things like:
-Do we want to make money?
-Do we want to make it P2W? (or easier to win)
Personally I'm not a fan of selling ranks with kits and extra perks that actually make it easier for the players.
But I've never been the money-guy in a minecraft server, so I don't know everything about it.

One thing, don't invest all your money unless you know you will get it back in some way.
Always have some spare to get yourself out of trouble.

Staffwise, I suggest you see how it goes.
Do you know some people that will play for sure and are willing to help, get them in the team.
But depending on how big you want your release to be, you shouldn't need to many people for a first release. If your release is good, players will be asking for a position in the team.
Then you create your own requirements and see what happens.

I hope this helps.

You have literally done everything you have to be after finishing this:
  • The server itself that players will play

A lot of people have that problem that they don't know where to start a project. You should start and finish the main target of your project. You should not even name it before finishing. (Just to name it, you may use Project BLABLA) Of course, you will want players to be hyped but before that you should have done your server, otherwise every second that you delay your project, players will be less hyped, and more angrier. If your project loses hype or if your server is not good enough that it can't even do what it promises, when it releases, it will be a fail. No one will play. So after you finish the server, you may start hyping the players. And then start by listing things you need to do again. Sort them by their priority, start/finish those things quick and start the hype. And yeah, you got a good project to release!

Server documentation may be useful, along with a server spawn, custom plugins, and potentially more.

Ox8#8197 if you would like to talk, I specialize in server documentation and management. I could assist you with contacts :)
