I have little to no experience making Minecraft servers, but it has always been something I've wanted to do. I have a few thousand dollars saved to start the creation process, but have absolutely no idea where to start. I have an idea that I think will translate well to Minecraft and a name for the server but not much outside of that. I'm willing to learn new skills and open to hiring people to help. If you have some experience making servers, what advice can you give me? Are there any good resources (excluding YouTube) for learning about plug-in development and server creation you can recommend?

If ya have a thousand or so saved up you can definitely get a good kick start out of it. I'd definitely recommend hiring some freelancers for a logo design and banners, and maybe a few custom plugins.

Main thing I'd focus on is making whatever server gamemode you decide to make unique. Making something unique makes your server stand out, and makes advertising a lot easier, as you'd be advertising things people find interesting rather than just a bland "Quests, Jobs, and more" type of selling point.

Advertising and getting your server out there is key. For advertising definitely go the TikTok / Reels / YT shorts route as those usually get those advertisements to the right people. Good luck on ya server endeavours.

Hello, my personal recommendation this year to start a Minecraft server is you need to be unique as already said. When I think of making a server unique I like to think "why should people join my server instead of every other server in the world". For example, if you have a factions server, why would people join yours, and no, it can't be because "because it's my dream" or because "oh my staff team is awesome and there are no hackers!!111!!!". You need something never seen before by the community.

So, my advice, hire developers and have a long hard think. Running a Minecraft server can be a look harder than it looks or seems.

Hi Kurim,

Another thing to recommend on this is that you ideally want to host your Minecraft server or Network on your own systems or rented dedicated servers, as the pricing can become increasingly expensive on each server you order or make with your hosting provider, instead of a flat out monthly fee like $50 a month for example. Remember, you need to take into consideration monthly fees each month such as hosting, management, staff, advertising, and a whole load of other costs which can quickly stack up.

If you ever want a more in-depth chat about the hosting/requirements of a dedicated server, the best providers, locations and what not, give me a shout. I am a Systems Admin so I am more than happy to help if you need it.

Everyone above summed it up well, and you'll hear this term once more "unique". If you can dedicate yourself to building something eye-catching and engaging, you can easily pull a nice fanbase together that can help support the growth and curation of a larger and more established community.

If you're ready to get into it, I'd look around this forum and other places like the business discords that are associated with this community and find some more knowledgeable and experienced managers/owners to give some insight.
