Hey,

As some of you may or may not know I'm a Web Designer. But I want something fun that I could do in my spare time. So I came up with Hand Drawn Art. I know I can't just be perfect and a pro like TotallyDrawn overnight so that's why I've come here and asked for some Advice & Tips.

I currently have a Huion H610 as my tablet so I first need advice on that. Should I get a new one or is that going to be fine?

I also currently use Adobe Illustrator which I've been told by many designers that this isn't a very good software to use and I should use others. So I need Advice on which is the best software to use.

Then I just need tips in general. E.G: Straight lines, shading, etc.

If you know any good Hand Drawn Artists on here that could be willing to give me some good Tips & Advice then please tag them in.

Thanks!

Question is: Have you started drawing at all?

My advices to you is to start with beginner tutorials. There's alot of stuff on www.deviantart.com, look for tutorials, copy other artwork - there's no shame on that as long as it's just for practicing, I did copy alot of it and I still do - start off with a "skeleton"/sketch before doing the actually drawing, to help with proportions and the most important lesson of all is practice!

About the "gear" you should use, I'm a bit more conservative with it, since I started drawing with paper and pencil, but of course nowadays the digital art is more used and more convenient since you don't have to spend a lot of money in drawing materials, but I'd recommend practicing with a notebook and paper to start.
Of course you can practice with a tablet as well, it's just a personal preference.

If you draw everyday for like 15-30 minutes, just sketching and fast drawing, you'll see a lot of improvement in a year!
Also don't worry if the drawing you made looks garbage at first, that's where everyone starts. Just put it aside and start with a new one. Making mistakes and errors is and always will be part of an artist, and it's pretty much a lesson's life.

Here's some useful links that might help you out, but if you always need any specific help, you can always ask me! :)

Thanks a lot for the advice. I will try out everything you said. Do you recommend a program to draw with? I currently use Illustrator but I've been told its not the best for drawn art.

PaintTool SAI or Clip Studio Paint (my preference) are great illustration programs if you are willing to spend money. LuisaDraws pretty much summed up how to start off as a self taught artist.

As for the tablet, there is no need for you to invest anymore into hardware. That tablet should work perfectly fine.

You should get a simple tablet like a Huion 420. Tablets with all of the buttons are wastes of money when you can just as easily use keyboard shortcuts that do the same things. Along with that if you're not confident in your art there's no point spending money on a high-quality tablet until you feel you're comfortable with drawn art.
I have that tablet also. I got the tablet for the game Osu! but I rarely play it now.
