There are multiple definitions on the verb advertise and only using one source seems invalid.
Not saying that I agree that your post should be considered an ad, just saying there are multiple definitions of it.

If you are trying to draw attention to a thread without targeting an individual user in the shoutbox, you are advertising. This has always been made clear by staff.
