So I was on mcm mobile and put my phone in my pocket. After walking around for a bit, I come back to this as my new username.. it was funny at first but now I'm upset over my username history and how I'll be stuck with this for a month.

I was suggested to post this here for other opinions..

I think you should be able to buy something in user upgrades that will clear certain or all past usernames you've used. This, or allow you to enable or disable viewing of it.

Why: Even besides my situation a lot of people just simply regret their old changes and name history. Whether it was for an old joke or something personal or they just want clean history.

Pros: - People would be able to take back mistakes/regretful changes.
- The website could profit from people purchasing this.
- It would allow people to become known/build their own rep by keeping a single alias
- People could change their alias and "start over"

Cons: - Could confuse people who don't know about changes too well.
- Would have to be subject to a time delay so changing names still has a meaning.
- Issue of coming up with a price

Compromises: - Make the price either same price as name color OR add it onto Supreme perks, which would entice people to buy it more.
- If all this won't work, let people have a chance to get clean history by making a support request with a legitimate reason (at least a one time opportunity)

I think this would be a bad idea as a scammer could report his neg rep and delete all of his past histories and then "start all over again"
All tho you can maybe open a ticket to clear your name history.

Could possibly implement a time based hiding system.

We allow clearing username history, only if personal information is involved.

However, it was your decision to change your name. Your own action in choosing a name. While it sounds ‘nice’ to have the ability to clear your username history, I believe everyone should have the right to track your past identities, and therefore perhaps actions, under your old names.

We’ve never allowed people to ‘wipe clean’ and ‘start anew’. Your past actions should reflect on who you are today on this forum. At least, that is my firm belief.

I would love to see this implemented, as I'm quite embarrassed about my name history. +1 from me :)

I dont understand how you happened to hit multiple buttons in the perfect order to change your name on "accident" The name change info should be public.

I get the concern you and Jayson are bringing up about having a right to view username hist, but I think people have the right of privacy as well. I think it wouldn't cause too much confusion if it were limited to once a year, or even one time use. I also think it wouldn't let people "hide," because disabling public viewing of username history wouldn't make it so your past actions/posts are all erased and we could implement it in a way that staff could still see it on your profile page.

I think it's great Lotus that you guys offer Support for personal info, but there's a lot of other reasons that I think are legitimate for wanting a reset. In my case, my personal reason is that I just never wanted to change my name/have change hist for the 2yrs I've been here (and it was an actual accident) but instead some of the staff accused me of doing this for attention when I have nothing to gain in reality. My support req has yet to be answered though so I'm not bashing you guys.

I think we should allow ppl to build their presence in this marketplace the way they want to be known. Username history may sound trivial but it does leave an impression.

FAX

Also it would be harder to track down people if they change their IGN every 30 days. I stumbled on a profile page of a guy I really needed to talk to one time and I only noticed it was the right person when I viewed his username history. I feel like clearing IGN history doesnt change a thing. Do these people want less text in their username history and thats all? Remember that suggestions need to be beneficial to MC-Market.

Yeah not even joking lol it was funny at first but now it’s kind of upsetting.

I explained why I think it’d be beneficial but if it’s too much to add a system like this, at least expand what you can do through Support Reqs. Instead of being helped I’m just being accused :/ there’s a lot of people with legitimate reasons for wanting a reset

Remember that guy Franklin maybe who changed his name on order to evade being noticed from scam reports and was able to go on scamming a bunch of people? That's what could be dangerous about this suggestion.

As mentioned, there are a lot of issues with being able to hide your name changes (however changing your name does not remove your posts or rep, so it wouldn't make you completely anonymous).

A few years back my MCM account was hijacked and the name was changed. The staff reset my name and cleared the changes.
In scenarios like this, and ones where you change your name on accident/don't like your new name, maybe a 48 hour reset feature could be implemented. I.e. you can revert your name (without the history) to your previous name within 48 hours of a name change. Obviously, this could be abused (people constantly changing and reverting their name every day), so you should still have to wait (1 month? I don't know what the time limits are) before you can change your name again.

We wouldn't do this any more. Even if an account is compromised you're still responsible for all of the actions done on your account is now our policy for it.

---

While I do see why users would want to clear their username histroy or remove something from it, this isn't going to come any time soon. On the original post you wrote that the ability to start anew and completely erase any history of your old name is a good thing, but I disagree. We are a marketplace first, and with money being transacted it's important that users know exactly who they are dealing with.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
