Disabling the account is meant to comply with GDPR afaik. I tried this suggestion too and was shot down by Justis R I think mostly because of that.
That's a misconception. GDPR doesn't force things like that.

If they want to comply with GDPR, they would have to remove the account instead.

Oh nope - my suggestion was different with this. Sorry, just had a look through. And ah okay, fair enough.

Ah, I see. This brings up a whole different topic though; GDPR's right to be forgotten act(src).

Perhaps that's worthy a different suggestion.

We're well aware of the right to be forgotten, but I believe that we are exempt due to paragraph 3, which states:

Paragraphs 1 and 2 shall not apply to the extent that processing is necessary:

(d) for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes in accordance with Article 89(1) in so far as the right referred to in paragraph 1 is likely to render impossible or seriously impair the achievement of the objectives of that processing; or

We keep accounts in our database purely for archiving purposes in the public interest. Without doing so it would offer any banned member from our site the ability to evade their ban indefinitely-- definitely something the public wouldn't want and neither do we.

The GDPR is not necessarily relevant in the argument about whether we need to delete users accounts or not, but we do offer our users the ability to disable their account and have any of their personally identifiable information changed. I believe that it would be immoral of us to remove the ability for people to disable their accounts and private their profiles. Instead, in a future update we plan to make only the 'Scam Reports' tab visible on disabled user profiles, which should remove the risk brought up in this thread in a much better way.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
