Intel, cause I've always stuck with it. No point changing up for me. This is same as the iPhone vs Android, it's personal preferences.

This is far from that, the most recent chips prove that

The old AMD's are beyond crap and the old intel's are very efficient, however, now, the new AMD's are very good and the new intels, are also very good, but not better then AMD anymore, at least for gaming no.

AMD for the new stuff, if you're going for a lower-end build Intel is the way to go

I'm fairly sure AMD currently dominates the entire price range ($80-$500) currently while Intel struggles to get to 10nm outside of low power laptop chips. AMD especially dominates the budget end with 1st gen 1600s still going for $80-100 and the 2600 going for $140. The used market is also going strong still. The only exclusion is if you're purely gaming then games that prefer a higher single core clock speed can net you ~20 more fps on some titles but I'd argue that it doesn't make sense to go with Intel even then as their 9000 parts mostly lack hyperthreading (I assume you were referring to the 9400f for low end) which hurts both 0.1% and 1% lows, even the higher end chips (9700/9900) that do are vulnerable to security risks which may or may not have been patched by now, I'm not too up to date on that as AMD user. The rumored 3500 chip (6c/6t) would also undercut the 9400f if its made available to consumers by offering better price for similar enough performance.

Just my two cents but Intel got too comfortable with a lack of competition and is now caught with their pants down while AMD takes the lead (not in clock speed which isn't the ultimate factor but in IPC). I'm pretty excited to see what Intel releases in the coming months but at the moment, even with some price slashes, I find it hard to recommend an Intel system at all if someone wanted to build a modern computer at any price point.

Edit: To answer OPs question, I like intel's mature platform as AMD's has almost caught up but again, I currently can't recommend Intel to someone looking to build a new computer today.

Intel. My reasoning is simple: I don’t use desktops anymore. I use laptops. AMD has entirely ignored the high-end laptop market. I’m not saying that this is on purpose (it’s probably not), but it does make it impossible to prefer AMD when they’re not present in the sector I’m interested in.
