Don't do any deals on discord without confirming onsite. Also, don't forget to confirm middlemen.
Rep is not everything, although can be a good indicator on trustworthyness. Also check things like account age, deal sizes, and post history.
I'd recommend you to use Paypal G&S instead of F&F if you use Paypal. A lot of people will exclusively do F&F because it's harder (BUT STILL POSSIBLE!) to chargeback, but I've heard a lot of stories about people getting their Paypal accounts limited for using it too much, and for business-purposes.
Avoid service teams. Some are good, yes, but it's often better to go directly to the freelancer. That way you know for sure what you're getting, and have better options for communication.

It's been a pretty good year for me. Nothing negative to report. Everyones been quite nice actually.
I think you get out of this community what you put into it. Personally I would rather trust someone by default than not and just stay away from drama and you'll be okay.
