I had a similar budget ($15 to be specific) when I first got started in this minecraft server business. In all honesty and truthfulness I winged it and made $100 profit out of the server. You are looking to get your server setup within 3-4 days and no longer then a week if necessary. My best advice is to pre make the server on your pc. Watch youtube videos on how to setup the plugins you want and read if there are none, secondly get a custom /help plugin like advanced help and make a list of all the plugins commands that you would like the users to have, the only reason i am suggesting this is because essentials can be messy and let your users know all your plugins which is something you don't want them to know, thirdly you have $20, find a cheap domain, I would recommend namecheap but choose one that you would pick if you were to jump on a server for example mcpvp.faith, that would cost $0.70 for a year and users could easily remember the domain and finally most importantly is have a plan for your server, schedules for staff, dropparties for members, dropparties for goals, online store prices, online discount periods, etc. I hope this helps, I know it isnt the greatest explanation but should give you a rough idea of what to do.[DOUBLEPOST=1519856640][/DOUBLEPOST]
I have done that too, but the reality is, that’s luck. There’s no guarantee that’s going to happen to you in today’s Minecraft society. You really do need a fair chunk of money in order to get a big player base and maintain it.

To all these people that say they started a server with a low budget, if you’re telling the truth, which I think 50% of you are just saying that - it was luck. As stated above, a server today will not hold its player base on a low budget.

In order to make money, you have to spend money.
I get where you coming from, I made $100 off $15 like I said but I didn't re-invest properly because I had no experience in this field before compared to now where I have a minimum budget for servers at $200

Understandable, but times have changed is my main point. Back in the day $100 was a huge investment, but now $1000 isn't even a huge investment.

Anyways He can do this. He just needs to follow my steps, have a positive attitude and be willing to learn from the mc market/minecraft community

It's not that I'm being negative, but times have changed. He can get a server going with whatever budget he wants. As you said, invest smart, don't go broke trying to look rich.

Hey, kiko123 I don't know if anyone has contacted you regarding this, but I would love to help get you started and stay close to you and your server. Just add me on discord or private message me on my mc-market and we can talk further about this.

Going to join in on this thread.

I can see both sides of what people are saying - $20, or even $100 isn't a huge budget. Yes, it's possible to have some success, but it's less likely that spending a higher budget (in the right places).

Speaking solely about investment & returns, the way I see it is if you're making more than you're spending each month (or year), you're succeeding. In your case, it may be that you somehow spend $20 on a server setup + advertisements/hosting, and receive $25 in return - not so interesting, but you've profited.

To give an example, I relaunched my own server last September, and have slowly risen in donations - starting at $50 in the first month, to $1400 last month. Granted, it was a relaunch so there were some existing players, a Discord, website, setup etc. however, I spent no more than $20-30 on monthly costs and only a little more on advertising.

What I'm trying to get at, is the importance of reinvesting your profits from the server. The first month there was little/no profit after costs, but it allowed a stable playerbase.
Another small thing I'll point out is the importance of planning. I mentioned that it was a relaunch, this was because it had previously shut down due to various bugs and more importantly, not spending money wisely, and ultimately wasting it.

If you're determined to go with this, look for cheap/free methods of advertising. Make your own server, instead of buying one - not only will this save you money, but in my own personal opinion it'll allow you to know your server, take pride in it, and also fix any bugs.

However, in all honesty, if you have $100 to your name and you're worried about losing it - don't spend it on a Minecraft server unless you're willing to lose it. Yes, it's an investment, but investments fail - if losing that $100 would leave you with nothing, don't do it.

I hope this helps to clear things up. I know it's not exactly an answer, but the TL;DR is your budget isn't huge, it's possible to succeed, just maybe not to the level that you hope to reach straight away. Think about whether you want to spend what you consider a huge amount of money, on a Minecraft server unless you are certain it'll have at least some sort of success, financial or otherwise.

Thanks a lot for the help. I want to make my own server, but sadly I am very bad at it, like I seriously suck at making servers, and for that reason I am kinda skeptical about doing so

From what I have taken from this thread, it is that, I am running a risk going into the battle for a pb with a low budget, but if I am ready to take that risk, there is a chance I will be able to make profit out of it.

I understand, I truly thank you all so much for the help, you guys really have supported me :D Thank you all so much <3

Going to be honest here - no matter what your budget is, I wouldn't attempt to create a server while this is true.

Well I have decided to seek out help, I am paying 10-12 dollars for a full in depth tutorial on a setup of my liking. So I am basically gonna learn how to manage a server. Before I actually start one
