Hey there! Are configurators developers? I have this manager on my team who refuses to believe that configurators, and developers are different.

Configurators and Developers are 100% different.

Configurators are people who edit text files

Developers are people who develop things from scratch most of the time (unlike skidders)

Developers and configurators are very much different people. Configurators change options usually placed in a config.yml file. Developers make plugins or websites or other applications.

Hope I helped!

Time to find a new manager then.
Developers make the files configurators configure.

"Configuration Developer" LOL. The name itself sounds like a scam

No. Just no. Developers actually spend the time to master a language and create applications from it. Configurators are people who change true to false in a text file. Development requires skill, configuration requires no skill at all besides basic English and common sense.

Unfortunately, in a lot of places, this is a common mistake. Especially public "service provider" discords.

People who configure servers, and people who develop custom plugins are often labeled under the same category. It's annoying how many people I have to explain that difference to when they PM me asking me to make them a config for X plugin. Honestly, you could offer me $50 to make a ShopGUI config and I'd turn it down. I hate that kind of work.

I won't deny that people who configure servers are definitely skilled, somewhat. I'd personally label them as "Server Developers", and people who make plugins "Plugin Developers".

Edit: Aaaaand I just realised this was a necro. My bad.

I know the opinion of everyone has been given here, but I want to rant it out a bit too lmao...

In Minecraft terms, a developer will make a mod from scratch and put probably around about 1 to over hundreds of hours in to creating it, and then they will create a configuration file for other individuals (configurators) to configure the mod using that file.

So a developer and configurator have two very different roles, infact, a configurator cannot even do what their title suggests without a developer first creating the mod.

Furthermore, a configurator in my eyes doesn't even deserve a title. No random person (including myself) could just decide to make a mod, they need to have the skills and time to do this and then they get the deserved title of developer. A configurator on the other hand only has to follow the instructions in plain text that the mods developer created, I could literally call myself a configurator just because I followed the instructions that a developer has literally already put out there.
