No it doesn't require the Apple Pencil at all. It supports it, but there are many third party alternatives that are cheaper.

Adding onto that:
You said it works for all iOS devices, but who wants to draw on an iPhone? You would need an ipad mini or ipad, which is an extra $500-1000+ if you don't own one already.

indeed. And since I have 0 other use for any apple products at the moment, Im not gonna get the investment back anyway.
