Automatically make creators watch their resource discussion threads.

Hi all,

Resource discussion threads are for users to discuss the resource with other users, and the resource creator. Unless the resource creator is quoted, they will not receive a notification whenever a user posts a comment. This is frustrating for the user when they want attention as they think they are getting ignored. I think that once a resource has been posted, resource authors should automatically watch their threads so that they get notified whenever a user posts a comment.

Even tho I agree with this, Its not that big of a deal to click "watch thread" but still useful to make it automatically press it.

Nearly all the people forget to watch it right after their resource is published.

Unfortunately we never got around to making this (relatively simple) change for our XF1 site. In XF2 we're making significant changes to the way that discussion threads work with resources which will no longer make this relevant I believe.

With XF2 we're planning to remove the existing discussion threads for resources and instead allow users to link a resource with a thread in the existing product forums for better consistency and interconnectedness between the site. All threads are watched by default upon creation, so this issue will no longer occur.

Not sure if this really makes sense to be considered a bug report report or suggestion, but I guess denied is the best place for this.
