Maybe this isn't the best or the right platform to share this on, but I am trying to share this everywhere I can so, please take a few minutes to read this post. Thank you.
Some of you may not know where Croatia is, it's a small country in Southern Europe, that was hit with a 6.4 magnitude earthquake yesterday. The epicentre was in a small town, and due to most of our buildings remaining old (Culture and lack of money), the damage is HUGE. I am in the capital city Zagreb (the epicentre was 50km from Zagreb) and I can tell you it WAS STRONG. This earthquake isn't the first strong one in 2020, the first huge one was with an epicentre really close to Zagreb, 5.3 magnitude. For some of you, it may seem like nothing, but we don't have modern buildings and such as Japan and other countries that experience earthquakes on a daily basis. The damage and the overall outcome was horrific for Croatia, the first earthquake in march destroyed most of the old buildings, which play a big part in our history and culture, many people were left with no homes and no places to go, and the worst is that it was during the lockdown. But this one, this one was way worse. A magnitude of 6.4 destroys most buildings. One little girl has lost her life due to yesterdays earthquake. There are people living in literal tents, camping because their homes are destroyed. The truth is, we don't really have the funds to help everyone, we're trying to but it's not cheap housing so many people, we're not a really rich country. We are getting support left and right but as said, a lot of people live in tents, some are transported to old war bases and are housed with military people.
Now I, myself don't need ANY donations, I am financially stable and the damage on my house from yesterday was little to non-existent, even though it was huge in March. If you have any amount that you wish to send to a good cause, please, donate to legit fundraisers like the Red Cross. Any amount helps. If you have any questions, drop them below and I will try to answer them!
I will put some pictures, but will put them in a spoiler as some may find it graphic!
This is how most houses in Petrinja (The small village where the epicentre was) look
There were many many injured, especially elderly people
- This is where most people that lost their homes live
