Ban offensive names

I have pushed for the profile picture equivalent in the past, and it has been denied.

I believe any name which can be found offensive should be an instant ban. This should include:

• Swear words (maybe a few warning points/suspension and a random name change should be applied here.
• Racist words
• Words that refer back to figures such as Hitler, etc.
• Names that involve sexual remarks.
• And whatever else the staff deem inappropriate.

A lot of people will disagree with this, but this is a Minecraft forum and should remain a safe place. The minimum age requirement is 13, but that's still young. The staff should be working to make MC-Market a safe environment for everyone. If you press Disagree, please leave a message to why you do.

The only thing we instant ban for is scamming and serious TOS violations, not possibly offensive names.
That, we issue warning points for just like every other lesser evil rule violation.
If we banned for such minor things, we'd have a very small user-base, and an extremely large banlist.
It should stay as it is.
If you see someone with a name you find offensive, feel free to report it.

This is a minecraft forum, not a liberal college. We don't do safe spaces.

But if there is an actual offensive name, you can report it and if it really is bad, we can change it and apply warning points. But we're not going to ban someone over their choice of name.

Not a ban. If its very inappropriate they maybe a few warning points and been forced to change it. But a ban is a bit much. Though tbh, I haven't really seen any very inappropriate usernames on here. So either the staff deal with them well, or people just don't do it.

First off, this forums has no 13 year olds to begin with, and I truly believe everyone is mature enough to handle things such as racism, anti-religion offences, sexual remarks, etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but no one on this forum is 13 years old.

You have to be 13 or over to be on the forum.
Yeah, people are mature enough but it still shouldn't happen. It doesn't happen in real life, it shouldn't happen on here either.

You would be surprised, quite a substantial percentage of the user base is aged 13-15.

Again, lets be realistic. You obvious don't call people over racial slurs, but people use them more as "banter" nowadays in the society we live in. I personally own the account "J*wNi**erFgt", and people always get funny reactions in chat rather than feeling offended.

That's the internet for you. Not just here, but any forum, or just about anything with a chat really. People insult each other. Its the society we live in. I think people should have the freedom to do so, as long as its in moderation and doesn't go too far.

If names are sufficiently inappropriate, they'll be modified. At least, that's what I remember. You'll find nobody named "fuckface" on the forums. There was a person that managed to be tricky by naming themselves Hltler, but they were pressured to change it.
There is no "nigger" either, for obvious reason. I'm curious to see actual examples of names that exist on this forum that you consider offensive.

Disagree with a ban, agree that there shouldn't be people with truly offensive names (there aren't, those people get forced changes) so I see no need for this suggestion

If your 13 and on the internet I'm sure your corrupted already, and if your not then joining a marketplace forum isn't going to help. Placing a ban on peoples choice of a name is outrageous and the ban list would skyrocket. Funny thing, I'm sure a lot of those 13 year olds own a "offensive" name.

Right now we already do have a fairly decent sized block-list of words (such as Admin, or even Mick I think), so if you would like more to be added send me a PM with a list of bad words.

Please make sure you explain why you're sending it when you do PM me, I don't want to receive a 1000 line PM of derogatory words in 2 years with no explanation

I rated disagree because I believe, this is a marketplace, a place for business. If you feel 'unsafe' because you see some words you don't like, then you shouldn't be doing business on a marketplace.

I also feel like if we did make this a rule it would be misinterpreted by many members and we'd be seeing custom titles, profile status messages, etc. being reported and for words that are not that bad.

I am not saying people can have whatever names they want, or that you can't report people for their usernames. I am just saying making it a rule and enforcing it is unnecessary and shouldn't happen.
