Hey all,

Recently, MCM made a good step in the right direction by enforcing strict policies against resource leakers and those affiliated. However, in the eyes of many, it was a half-baked effort knowing that this site thrives on the Minecraft TOS violating sales of accounts (and the other range of TOS violating services this website facilitates). I wish to see the removal of accounts as a step towards making this marketplace a platform that actually cares about ethics.

Why would we want to ban the sale of accounts?
  1. Legitimize the marketplace. The site hypocritically enforces Rule 5.4 by striking down those who violate product ownership rights heavily, yet turns a blind eye to the sale of Minecraft Accounts which violates Mojang’s TOS. Choose one or the other. Remove 5.4 and commit to being a black market, or equally enforce your own rules across all sections of the forum. Being inconsistent and half-assed only annoys the community even more.

  2. Get rid of our most toxic and notorious members. The accounts market is saturated, comprising of crackers stealing accounts, returning ban evaders and is also the section holding the most linked scam reports often closing due to inconclusive evidence.

  3. The site no longer needs to allocate resources to develop features and moderate the section. "Opportunity cost"

  4. MC-Market will not die. By considering points 1 and 3, MCM can become an even better place for everyone and expand into even more markets. There are far more and far better opportunities out there.

Fun reads :
The site doesn’t need to be plagued by accounts anymore. This site has a bigger future for itself by legitimizing itself into a community that leads others. Honestly, I shouldn't even need to be trying to convince everyone by explaining all the benefits of removing the section. This should not have been even allowed on this site in the first place.

do you just hate this site and yourselves? just give it to us straight
They hate US. Why? Because they think what we do is immoral? Their argument is "We hack accounts off eachother, making the community immoral" which is false. But look at what immoral things staff have been doing just from this thread!:
-Blatantly betraying a part of their community. No respect for some of us even though this community has been here for longer than the current staff have.
-Accounts section would've likely been removed silently in the next update, if the idea wasn't leaked out to the public forcing a suggestion thread
-Blatant contradiction, lies, and manipulation by the staff in an attempt to convince us their bullshit, and damage control. (Benefit of the doubt: They aren't lying on purpose they are just extremely uneducated).

Staff, we KNOW your TRUE intentions for this website and it's tearing this community apart
Your arguments are irrelevant and you know it. Because if you could, you would get rid of our community in a heartbeat and the reason why is ridiculous.

you will lose countless sales, premium supreme and ultimate, around 10% (I'm guessing) at least is all minecraft sales,

name your place MC MARKET when there's no minecraft sales

people interested in minecraft sales will lose interest and go to competitor sites such as[Censored]and mct

Well, unfortunately, I suggest you read and stop being a hypocrite. This breaks amazon TOS, maybe you should get attacked for such an immoral action.

I have purchased MC accounts before, I’ve jay-walked, I’ve downloaded music from Youtube without paying for it. Most of us have done illegal and even immoral things in our private lives. It doesn’t make you a terrible person.
However, when you are in a position of responsibility, especially over children and impressionable young adults, it will always behoove you to lead them by example, to teach them to respect others, respect the agreements they make, the rights of others, and the rights of their property. Or at the very least, don’t use your authority to encourage them and facilitate the violation of their agreements or teach them that stepping on the rights of others is okay.
Teach what you wish to see in the world.

Moreover, we are a marketplace.
What sort of marketplace employs written policies which refuses to protect only certain groups and individuals?
What sort of marketplace knowingly encourages and facilitates that other people’s products are purchased and sold without right?

That activity truly belongs on the leak sites we’re fighting to take down. Not here.

I can assure you I’ve done much worse in my life as well.
However, when it comes to making decisions on the policies MC-Market should employ as a business. Greater responsibility needs to be upheld.

Ad hominem (Latin for "to the person"),[1] short for argumentum ad hominem, typically refers to a fallacious argumentative strategy whereby genuine discussion of the topic at hand is avoided by instead attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself

Yes, you are in a position of responsibility and you've broken Amazon TOS, Minecraft TOS, State Laws by Jay Walking, Illegal Downloading of Content which breaks Youtubes TOS in the process.

Thanks for admitting all the stuff you've done wrong and given us a nice role model to look up too.

Realistically if it's against Mojang TOS we have absolutely no right to be able to sell accounts. Clearly horrendous from a business standpoint but MCM seems to be going the right direction with resources. Justis I suggest just waiting out the C&D for as long as possible (if it ever comes), focus on the other parts of the forum and then if you need to shut down account sales you can do it from a stronger position. No need to stir the pot right now.

Right, lets get this straight. Fuck off with your quotes of arguing techniques that I have seen frequently by you on this thread. It doesn't show that you're intelligent. From the ones you have quoted on this thread, none of them have even been accurate in context. It just makes you look like the self righteous idiot that a bunch of people already think you are; don't give them a real reason to believe that.

Stop treating this as a dam argument with opposing sides. This has turned into a community discussion around the best way FORWARD for MCM, not an argument in which we should stand here at an IMPASSE while you try and change the status quo based on your "good morals", obvious superior knowledge and reluctance to even acknowledge arguments against your "belief".

This SHOULD be a debate based on empirical evidence and we should be weighing up the best possible outcome for two things:

1. The site
2. The community

Despite this being the only clear topics for debate on this thread, you seem to enjoy talking about personal feelings, emotions and morals. Those simply don't come into this. I personally couldn't give a fuck if somehow you feel that it is your responsibility to make decisions, on behalf of a community that you clearly don't know very well on a personal level. I really don't care if it makes you feel bad that some people in the community are doing what you consider immoral things. It just doesn't matter that you are somehow embarrassed by your position due to your own perception of the community being a bad one. Stop thinking about yourself for once in your life. Why should the community and, honestly more importantly, MCM as a business suffer because poor justice isn't comfortable that we break a billion dollar company's TOS.

Its almost ironic that you quote the ad hominem arguing technique. This is the case because even that part of your response is hypocritical, never mind your attitude of "while its allowed I'm gonna do it". The argument as you so perfectly quotes references when someone attacks you as a person rather than your arguments. The funny thing about that is that so many of your arguments on this thread have been you talking about your own personal agenda, personal feelings and personal experiences that there isn't much actual argument to debunk. Rather we are left thinking "poor Justis he doesn't wanna to cry himself to sleep because the community that he administrates breaks Mojang TOS".

Your massive claims of piracy, black hat activity and other notions aforementioned are ridiculous because it is not piracy, it is not black hat activity, it is not illegal. It simply isn't. Stop scaremongering in an attempt to somehow frighten people into agreeing with your point. It isn't a good arguing technique! This, I wouldn't expect from you as you seem to know so much about these various methods to successfully (or unsuccessfully in your case) ruin your opponents on the field of keyboard warriors!!

I'd love to rant for ages about the actual topic of debate on this thread but if you would care to scroll up i believe that others have done a blindingly good job already of that so have fun reading Justis i guess. That's if of course you even want to read the massive holes in your arguments, that may be difficult for you.

I know I'm probably going to get hit by a quote of one of the propaganda techniques that you so hate while you proceed to indulge in the very practices that those arguments speak of buuut I sure do hope you can actually have a real discussion about things that have been brought up rather than using your sleek avoidance techniques to slip under the radar, only responding to things that have a convenient answer to fit your agenda.

Please read that ^ I can't TLDR something when every part is key to the reason no progress is ever made. A small TLDR would be that most of the staff team is so disconnected from the community that their festering hate for us has bubbled over resulting in them taking matters into their own hands, wanting to destroy the community in a fit of rage. Its like a revolution but where the aristocrats go around beheading all the peasants. MCM Inverse revolution.

Personally I don't mind people selling their Minecraft accounts. They are individual accounts, and imo once you buy something then you should be entitled (yes, I know it's against Mojang's EULA) to sell it on. It's not like a resource where you can make a copy and sell it, reducing the creator's sales. If you sell it, you have to buy another. There is only one. Ethically it's completely different to selling a resource.

It's actually funny how Justis's main argument of morality just doesn't convince anyone because no one cares. I love how you pointed out Justis's use of "ad hominem" against someone pointing out his hypocrisy, which, contrary to Justis's belief, is valid in the argument that Justis's "morals" are stupid, which is what the true substance of the debate is. At its core, it's really Justis's morals vs the community as a whole. Next time Justis says something stupid, please reply. I would love to read more of your rants lmao

I have no idea how the account marketplace functions now, but 4-5 years ago it revolved around cracking accounts and other blackhat activities. All the top sellers were involved first hand or second hand in these activities.
Obviously these activities have never been supported first hand by MC-Market (anything "cracking" related has always been explicitly prohibited), but all the biproducts have remained on the site.
If this is going to be dealt with, MC-Market will pretty much be boiled down to General Discussion and first party development, graphics, and other miscellaneous services.
I don't really care since I haven't used the site for anything other than resource sales in the past several years, but I understand why many users who deal this stuff daily would be upset by its removal.
