My Sister is about to go to University (which is like College) to do Medicine in about 2 weeks and is looking for a good laptop that will help her with her studies.

Requirements

  • No issues with internet connection
  • Won’t be slow
  • Likely to need a good amount of storage and ram
  • Something that will last a long time
  • Not expensive
She is also concerned about if there will be weak WiFi connection in her room or not, so is there anything that can make internet connection stronger?

Budget: Around £800 or less (could be up to 1k possibly, but lower the better)

We are more used to windows/android products and we only have 1 iPad (which is mine since my school gave it to me.

So comment down below your ideas, if there is 1 that she’ll buy from your suggestions, I may provide a cash prize

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Honestly a little expensive, but go with a lightly used Macbook Air. It will do what she is looking for and I bet its extremely common. It can handle doing a day's task worth of work and it shouldn't be as slow as other laptops.

Hm, well you haven't told us a specific budget. My college has given me a Razer Blade 15 for my major(?), but I think that's too excessive in your case considering this laptop is hella expensive and primarily for gaming.

Like RealEmil said, your sister could just get a ChromeBook and it will do just fine as it completes a lot of school tasks. I would personally stick with Lenovo/Dell because I've had bad experiences with HP. She could get a MacBook, but if she isn't familiar with the OS then chances are, she'll be frustrated. My friend got a MacBook Pro and she doesn't really know how to use her system and feels like she just wasted money lol... So, if your sister is familiar with Windows, then probably stick with a computer that has that. Especially because it is September and she would need time to adjust since uni is stressful with the workload. Lenovo seems better for the money compared to Macs.

Really man? Macbook? Don't ever go with Apple. I would rather buy a 30$ chromebook than a 1000$ shithole.

joerock777 get a Chromebook, can cost less than 100$ and runs smoothly and fits all of your needs, and mostly used for studying academics and light work whilst travelling.

What's wrong with a Macbook? It's lightweight, secure, amazing optimization, amazing OS, amazing screen, can go on... You can get your hands on a lightly used one for an extremely good price.

joerock777 If she wants a laptop that will last a long time, I'd say go for a MacBook, some of my friends have had macbooks for like years and they still run perfectly fine.

This mixed with

will be extremely hard to find, if buying new. I would suggest a Macbook - but those would take you out of pocket quite a decent amount. Maybe get a chromebook? Don't quote me on that, never experienced one so I wouldn't know.

Look to buy a used laptop.

Nothing she can do realistically.

Also take you out of pocket around 10grand, unless she plans on doing full-time gaming, don't bother.
LOL 10 GRAND?? It's like 1-2k USD. Also anything gaming is very fast for anything generally so[DOUBLEPOST=1599435550][/DOUBLEPOST]
College student here,
Go with a macbook! They have deals for students, you can get a few hundred off with those. Buy used / refurbished if money is a problem. I've heard lots of people say chromebooks suck when you get down to it, but I can't confirm. I have the 2020 Macbook Pro 15" and it's worked perfectly for me. If she's doing medicine, ram and storage probably won't be an issue. Apple offers iCloud storage, I currently pay like $3/m for 200gb of cloud storage, so they got you covered if physical storage is an issue. If she is just a freshman, then she won't really need a crazy strong device since it's just gen-eds for 2 years.

There is a reason you see so many macbooks on college campuses, and that's because they're really good. People who say they're bad have never owned one and just have something against Apple. A college laptop (especially with Covid and remote learning becoming more and more common) is not something to cheap out on. I'm sure your family will be able to find a few hundred bucks extra to get a macbook. It's a great long-term investment!

TL;DR: Get a macbook!

Macbooks are overpriced in terms of performance/dollar... They are considered a "luxury brand"

try looking into a macbook pro, you can find only easily that's used for 800euros in great condition and a decent speed. they're #1 for work only
