Hello,

I'm looking to start a large server, the exact number remains to be seen but the goal would be to have the server in the hundreds. I'm also currently developing a handful of custom features and plugins, most of which are only compatible with 1.13, 1.14, and 1.15. In order to work around this I plan on utilizing all of the Via plugins to enable backwards compatibility whilst still maintaining some core features (cause I know nobody actually plays on those versions).

I'm slightly worried about this as I've been reading up on this forum and there is unanimous consent that these three versions are notoriously laggy.

So my question is, Would it even be possible to run a server with hundreds of players on it with these versions? and if so what version would be the best in terms of server performance?

PebbleHost
High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

From experience, 100% would be 1.13; 1.14 is just plain awful and 1.15 is just slightly better than 1.14

I personally believe it's mainly to do with how your server is operated and what functionalities you will need. 1.14 was notoriously laggy and I felt as the version was rushed, (maybe to increase sales, get features out, especially with 1.16 coming soon, I really don't know). The other versions you specified have seemed fine in my recent experiences, note that backwards compatibility will cause degraded performance no matter what, forwards compatibility is a lot easier to do.

I see, do you think it would be possible to be able to run a fairly intensive Skyblock server on 1.13 and backwards Compatability with ~100 players and have the server hit around 19 TPS?[DOUBLEPOST=1582169453][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thank you, I think 1.13 it is then.

1.12.2 is actually even better than 1.13.2
It's not possible to run a server with more then 60+ people on 1.14 or higher
