Best way to gain players?

Hello,

After working on my server for three months I finally released it yesterday and the main problem i've found is getting players. I currently have voting setup and have got all the players that have joined to vote, but no one is joining except people who want staff. I don't have money to spend on advertising so I've contacted a few people on here who do Free Advertising, but I don't know how much that would help. The server it's self is a custom coded SkyBlock Server (excluding a few plugins from BDev) so I've spent a lot of time on it. Does anyone have advice for gaining players without paying?

I'd recommend you save up all your donations and spend them on 2-3 hours of .org at a peak time. Then you will be able to expand from there.

In the status quo, populating a Mine-craft server, especially a generic game-mode like SkyBlock, will cost you an arm and a leg. You won't have any success without a large advertising fund.

Yeah, I'm working on adding some unique features. However, I feel like I don't want to waste my time if no one plays it.

You're not going to get player to notice your server unless you have to pay big Youtuber to play or you buy slots on .org

That can differ, I once made a server hit 70 with only 3 hours of .org, youtubers aren't always the way forward, it wastes more time than what it's worth.

Their is multiple ways to get players but you have to keep updating your server to get them to stay by bringing out updates every few weeks so things do not get boring.

Your best bet to get the players to join is to hire popular youtubers and pay for a slot.

Renting minecraftservers.org slots for 2-3 hours is a waste of money. Engaging into agreements with small YouTubers will have a better long-term effect.

Youtubers aren't really worth it anymore, the price for 5 episodes has gone up drastically.

For example it used to cost $40 for a 1k youtuber for 5 episodes now it's like $100.

Fozzie, Not necessarily. HCFZone hired one YouTuber (Forgot his name) that have 50k Subcribers and he does MCSG and UHC not HCF but only for $60 a series.

Most rates have increased from what i've seen.

I think you've gotten some amazing information and tools you should use, but to recap and add more:

Firstly, slowly save up donations and then purchase .org slot at peak times [Do this once or twice.] You are also going to want to utilize PMC and the Minecraft Forums to get free advertising for your server. Then, you will want to look on MCM and MC Forums for a YouTuber willing to make videos on your server.

Note: Custom/Unique servers as well as prison and factions are more successful usually. You'll have a very very hard time making your sky block server succesful.
