Best way is trial and error, If you are unable to solve something think of the reasons and start ruling those possibilities out. Furthermore if you ever get stuck with a bug and you just cant fix it then take a break, as long as you can and relax yourself. This helps me everytime
Usually keeping an eye on the console helps a lot, yaml errors are often pointed out there (encountered several of these issues when I was setting things up in the past. Stacktraces may also help if you understand them that is. Also, if you happen to get stuck, don't hesitate to ask for help, there is usually someone out there that is willing to help you out with errors you encounter. And as with practically anything in life: be patient.
There are no shortcuts to this, only time and experience will help you with that.
