For the past two years I've had a urge to write a book, a novel of sorts (Just a personal project) yet everytime I pick up a pencil to write my inspiration just dies out immediately, I have no sense of joy while writing and usually just end up tossing away self-rejected pieces of writings over and over again. I have a book title that I wish to keep a secret, I have ideas for characters and lore for places within the world but everytime I try and write I just end up forgetting it all and tossing away everything.
What I'm essentially asking, or trying to is how can I overcome the feeling of pointlessness? I WANT to have this book be good for myself but I genuinely have no idea how to get the same drive I did years I had previously in today's time...
For those who've written books, novels or even giant personal projects such as mine, did you ever feel a sense of it all being pointless or useless? If so, how did you overcome it?
