Hey guys I've always been interested in learning to be good at building. I would like to learn alot of the most common building techniques. I know the basics of corse - //set //paste //copy //schem create etc I just would like to learn how to build better. Im a Graphic Designer that wants to learn how to expand on to building. Here is an example of one of my thumbnails

I would be willing to pay in money for a lesson, per hour or a trade for graphics for building

I do have need of some graphic design work, and depending on the rest of your portfolio I would be willing to trade some building and World edit lessons in exchange for some animated banners or signatures, twitter headers, etc. Equal compensation would be really dependent on how much time you need, and how quickly you grasp the concepts. Building is more than just World Edit as I am sure you know, and can depend on how well you can work with a color/block palette. As a designer, I am sure the last part of that would not be an issue.

If you'd like to discuss it on our discord channel, send me a friend request there, or PM me here.
At the very least I can invite you to our 1.12.1 creative build server and show you some of the things we've built already, before you decide.

Voice communication via Discord is a must have for lessons.
You'll also need 1.12.1, a decent PC for large cut-and-paste operations, and some patience.

I don't recommend paying for building lessons, or at least only pay for a few. After that, practice by yourself. I made a mistake and tried to learn how to build by paying large amounts for lessons however building is mainly based on your creativity so it requires practice rather than lessons.

I had a friend who was an amazing builder. One day I asked her the same question, and she said that its all about practice. During many of her years on MC, she watched youtube videos of people such as Grian while building in a creative plot. She said she had a fun time so she didn't think of it much. Comparing her beginning work to her end work really showed me that all it takes it practice and dedication. Try new things, view other builds for inspiration.

I 100% agree with the practice thing. I also agree with the spirit of exchanging skills, where you receive through instruction from an experienced person, a solid foundation of the basics. You can learn in a few hours or days of instruction what could very well take you weeks or months of trial and error. Experience has been shared and passed on for ages, through personal instruction.

Everyone learns differently. Some learn best by trial and error; doing something over and over and learning from your mistakes. Others can easily figure it out by watching a video and replicating what they see. That one depends on how well the video was edited, if the person making it has taken the time to show those commands or not and showing how the different commands relate to each other. We have all had to wade through 100's of those trying to figure something out.

But you cannot discount personal training. Instruction, coupled with practice, following along while someone shows you the basic and intermediary commands are valuable lessons. Every decent company or personal training coach uses this method to train others because it works.

You are right, practice makes perfect. But having someone with that knowledge willing to share it with you is just as invaluable. By all means, I would always advise someone to practice. But if you can practice with commands you know that work, your skill level will increase more efficiently.

I know I am new here, and have a lot to prove. And an equatable trade, where each shares their talents with the other, that is exactly what MC-Market is all about.
