Building Trends?

Hello McM!
Sooooooooo... After a long time of not having a PC that could run Minecraft, I finally scraped some money together to buy myself one that can actually run it!

But I'm in need of a bit of help, because I see a lot of things have changed since last time I was here, especially the build section. So here's my questions:

1) Is 1.8 still the preferd version for servers? (No specifies server types, just servers in general)
2) Is there still a market for an old builder like me, or have a new generation taken over?

1.) Yes, most servers and owners prefer 1.8. However, some would use the Viaversion plugin to allow players from above versions to join the server.
2.) Depends, provide a portfolio so people can see what exactly you have built.

Thanks, and I think I left my old portfolio somewhere, buuuut it's horrible compared to what I've seen these days, so I have to create a new one
