Hey, I am considering buying a dedicated server in the future. I currently own 6 servers together as a network from a hosting company. If I moved to a dedicated server would I need to buy 6 dedicated servers or just 1 with multiple IP’s? I have heard about doing both of these and just want to know which to do.
NOTE: don’t tell me about companies offering dedicated servers, I am thinking about buying one, I might not even buy one. However, if I bought one it would probably be with OVH as I’ve heard the best about them

PebbleHost
High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

You would just need to purchase 1 dedicated server, as long as that machine has enough RAM and CPU resources to run the 6 Minecraft servers. If they are all part of a network running behind a BungeeCord proxy, you just need 1 IP address also.

Just be aware that OVH are unmanaged and don't provide any software support. If you're not familiar with managing dedicated servers and using command line Linux, we would suggest choosing a provider that offers dedicated servers with semi-managed support (such as ourselves), as you will save yourself money by not having to pay a sysadmin to complete tasks for you.[DOUBLEPOST=1601260139][/DOUBLEPOST]

That is completely false, they offer the same security as a dedicated server. It is up to you to make sure you secure them properly.

Hello. Buying 6 dedicated servers, in most cases would be unnecessary and costly - a dedicated server is an actual machine. 6 VPS servers might be more reasonable.
And in fact, really you have a few options without breaking the bank

- Use 1 dedicated server even with just 1 IP, if you're installing all your game server instances on the same machine while using differing ports on your Bungee network ,
- Hide the ports in SRV DNS records or,
- Use small VPS servers as extra public IPs, connecting them with your dedicated server.

No way you would need 6 dedis, one should be just fine.

You're just trying to earn yourself business respect I guess, but every sys admin swears off vpses for a reason pretty sure its a mix of performance and security

OK, so if I purchased 1 dedicated server, I can set up a network with multiple servers, correct?
And since I’m here, does anybody know a good web host that is fairly cheap and I can run XenForo on smoothly?

Virtualisation is a widely used technology, especially in cloud computing. For Minecraft servers specifically a bare metal dedicated server will generally offer better performance, but virtualisation has many benefits over bare metal in other applications.

Correct :)

Absolutely!
& I have affordable, full cPanel web hosting plans at System413

But you could also install webserver software on your own server, if you want to do it yourself, or get a sysadmin :)

Alright, I think I might buy your servers because they are really cheap with good hardware. If I bought a 16 GB one would that be enough for a proxy, hub, and 4 game servers?
My estimation is that the proxy is 1 gb, hub is 2, and the game servers are 3. I expect to have around 30 plugins on each except for the hub which will have around 10.
And would you help me set up a network?

How many players would each of the gameservers be running?
Yes, we can install a panel (such as Pterodactyl) for you and help you transfer the servers from your old host and make sure everything is working.

Well the proxy itself won’t have any players on it. Hub I’m looking for around 20 players and the game servers probably around 30-40 each

After looking at this thread, I will keep all the hosting companies for Dedicated Servers in mind, and I will contact you when my server has enough players and gets enough donations so buying a Dedicated Server is worth it.
Thanks for all the help.

Our 16GB i7-6700K would be fine for that.

Hertzner are have been great in the past for Dedicated Machines the only downside is you obviously have to pay a setup fee so they can build the server.

Alright, thanks.
Actually I did the math and it looks like I can make one of the game servers 4 GB.
But would the other 16 GB one also work? I’m kind of on a budget since I’ve spent a lot of money on premium and a few custom plugins.
And all of these or at least one can/will have the 25565 port correct?

The E5-1630v3 should be OK also, but I would suggest the i7-6700K as you will likely need the extra CPU power when running these servers.
Yes, it will come with 1 IP address, so you will be able to bind one of the servers to port 25565.
