Hello all,

I was wondering if any of you have started a server or have bought one in the past and revamped it, and your experiences with them. Any opinions or thoughts are appreciated as well, I just want to know what other people think. I think getting a setup done for a server is a lot cheaper than buying an existing, but after all the other costs such as website, art, advertisement, staffing, etc. I wonder where the costs lie in comparison to a premade. You also might not be able to get something as custom or unique when going with a setup as when someone is selling their server they probably have it a bit more custom. I don’t know though, just wondering about peoples thoughts on this. I may or may not have a budget and act upon some stuff after this discussion :)!

Thanks,
Slusheh

It's better to start your own server if you have a good idea for a gamemode or a unique version of an existing one. But you'll have a to have a mid range size budget.

It's never better in my opinion to buy an existing server, unless you know how to revive it if it's dead. You also got to make sure it's not ALL CUSTOM or else it'll cost you big bucks.

I recently purchased a server that was "done" heres my thoughts.

Never judge a server by the front end, usually the back end isn't as good, I pretty much have to redo everything besides small things. I also had to make a new spawn and redo all the npcs, eco, crates, and ranks... pretty much everything.

I ended up with a discord with like 5 active people and some artwork, Just be careful and make sure to check everything. I've learned that unless the artwork is amazing or has something really custom/good its not worth buying.

From what I've been reading I think buying new server and starting from scratch is the better way to go so you wouldn't have to redo alot to your standards if you bought one.

Personally, I would said creating your own. You will know the quality of everything done and make sure it's done properly. Also, you will know the in and outs of the server if you were to make it yourself. However, I will say it's easier to get a playerbase by; buying a server. Overall if I were to make a server again I would create my own.
