Gaming laptops are generally the only affordable laptops with high-end graphics. Otherwise you want a workstation or ultrabook; they generally have discrete graphics and high-end CPUs.

However your i7 requirement is ridiculous. Mobile CPU models don't mean nearly as much as desktop models. A mobile i7 usually has fewer cores than a desktop i7, and often the same number of cores as a mobile i5, just clocked slightly faster. Thus you shouldn't limit yourself to i7 laptops, make a decision based on a CPU's Passmark score at cpubenchmark.com.

Your friend doesn't know what he is saying. It's a common misconception when people say i7s are better for gaming, while in fact they are not. An i5 CPU can beat an i7 when it comes to gaming. The only difference an i5 and an i7 is that the i7 has a feature called hyper-threading, which is useful for rendering/editing. Barely any games utilize hyper threading to run and improve perfomance, including MC. Take my advice, buy a good i5 CPU and don't bother going for the i7 (that is unless you love editing/rendering animations etc.).

Cheers!
