UPDATE: I did break up with this girl, there will be a story when I'm comfortable sharing it. It's complicated. Still a good read.
So my last one of these got really good reviews, so I think it's time for some more Calvin's life stories shall we?
First off, read all of this mess before you read this one, or this will be pretty confusing.

Back in time we go! May 13th, 2017, it was a sunny day, uncharacteristic for the week as it was raining the week leading up to it. I was out on a beach day with my girlfriend at the time, we were just wrapping up from shredding the gnarly waves bro like true Californians. Tangent time, if you haven't gone surfing you should, it isn't that hard, rent some gear, look up a youtube tutorial and go for it. If you have basic balancing skills you can do it. Get a soft-top board though, the hard-tops are not very friendly for beginners. Back on track, we were walking back from surfing, me struggling to carry both our boards and her awkwardly walking along side wondering if she should offer to help or let me keep struggling (the things I do for love..). She decided to offer to help but me being the stubborn me that I am decided to keep trudging along. After I let the boards down and my shoulders had recuperated, we had walked down a light house on a small peninsula where you could overlook the surf spot we were just at.
As we talked, I realized, she was being extra nice, I knew something bad was about to happen, but my ignorance got the best of me and I let it go. After watching the surfers and talking for a while, I knew for fact something was up. She usually would playfully punch me if I said something fucked up like I did a few times, but instead she just awkwardly laughed. I knew she was gonna make me force it out so instead of waiting for her to burst out I confronted her about it. I recall the words exactly, "What's wrong?" "Calvin, I'm breaking up with you, you are always out and about with friends or working or studying, you don't spend enough time with me!" (after we spent the whole morning together). This was the first time I ever felt truly heart broken. In the past I've been in "Middle School Relationships" where it was more for attention than for anything else. Such an intense sadness, I've never experienced it before, my emotions are almost always nulled, but that time, I truly felt it to my core. It was horrible.
For the next 2 weeks or so I wasn't myself. Everyone knows me as the strong, confident and kind self that I usually am. That breakup did something to me though, I wasn't me, I spent two weeks making out with any girl, indulging in expensive cuisine, blowing money on helicopter charters and exotic cars. During that time, I was emotionally unstable, so anything that would remind me of her, I would offset by spending money on useless, exotic "toys". It was one of the worst times of my life.
After partying through the nights and sleeping through the days, something clicked, and I realized what I was doing. I was in San Francisco that day, I remember walking out of the lobby, getting in a cab, and thinking about what had just happened remorsefully the whole way home. I arrived home to find a note, from her, that read simply "It was fun -Bry".
That relationship truly made we realize how many feelings I actually have, I felt all of them throughout it's course. But that relationship isn't the point of the story, it's the backstory.
June 23rd, 2017. I was back to my normal self, me and 3 of my buddies decided that Fridays were for the boys, and we were going to the theme park, a very short walk away from the beach I broke up with her at. I remember those events, but I didn't let them phase me. It was approaching evening, we were getting on one of our last rides. We got in line, and I was sitting on my phone doing whatever, and I heard a voice from behind me. My god, was it the most beautiful voice I have ever heard in my entire life. It was at just the right balance between high and low, it was breathy, almost like a whisper, but loud enough that I could hear it well. I don't remember what it was saying, but I needed to see the face behind it.
I chose to be the confident douchebag I am, I had just finished a Salsa class with my friend the day before, I remembered a spin move they taught us I did the spin half way like a true dancer, and started talking. "Did I ever tell you the story of when I stole a flamingo?" I say to the complete stranger standing there. She was about 5' 3", dark brown hair, almost black, Latino, likely from Central America, though with an American parent, dark eyes, no makeup that I could tell, she was wearing a white, snug, low cut shirt, black booty shorts, clubmaster sunglasses and a Dodgers hat. She said "No, who are you?" I said "Alright, this is a good one, so I was at this river up in the great white north..." I proceeded to tell the story, but I'll save that for another time. When I finished, she was looking at me in an intrigued manner, she said "Ralph huh? well you should introduce me sometime." I finally introduced myself, "Calvin C, Entrepreneur, Runner, Yachtsmen, Surfer, Red car enthusiast." "Izzy Nomahlasnam, Tennis Player, Golfer, Skier" we ended up talking the whole way up and around to the roller coaster, amused friends pointing at us from behind.
I became infatuated, she seemed perfect, I couldn't find something she talked bad, though it may be because she has the voice of all the angels. I ended up stealing her for the ride, afterwards, I played my favorite card of all. "How about this, I like you a lot. So, let's go on a date, right now, I know a great place near here, if you hate me at any point, I'll call an Uber for you and get you to wherever you need to go and you never have to see me again." To my surprise, she said "Ok, your paying!" I laughed about it and we headed out, me listening to her talk the whole way."
We talked, and talked and talked. Apparently the restaurant was black tie only, but luckily there was a private room where we could go to without dress, the restaurant was very busy, so it almost felt like a message from god that this is meant to be. "What looks appetizing?" I said, "I think I'll just have a salad" me, realizing she was probably apprehensive about the price said "Well, as much as a salad is all well and good, there is a special item off the menu, if you like seafood." I ordered us a Caviar taco dish, she was very surprised that a kid wearing a Yankees hat, white shorts and a dark grey v-neck even knew that there was a secret menu, let alone a dish on it. We ate, and kept talking and talking and I kept thinking she was more and more amazing. After 2 hours or talking I was head over heels for this girl So I did something stupid.
I called in a favor. My friends dad own's a helicopter he keeps on his estate, so I offered to cover expenses if would come pick us up at an airport somewhat near the restaurant. I asked early if she had ever been in a helicopter as I had just gone on a helicopter tour of San Francisco a few days before with my cousins, who were in town from Canada for a week or so. I called an Uber and we hopped in, I said I had one more thing we needed to do before the night was over.
Her reaction when we arrived at the gate was worth more than I could ever afford. As we pulled up on the Tarmac, she was freaking out, what are we doing, where are we going she kept asking. "I said I would take you home at the end of night, if you hated me, do you hate me yet?" I said grinning ear to ear. "I'll tell you in the air!" My friend was sitting shotgun, I don't know his words exactly but I assume it was something like "mah boy is gettin some tonight!". "I have a pretty good memory" I said to Izzy, "like earlier when you said you had never been in a helicopter before." she persistently thanked me over the CS:GO silver like headset mics. Tangent time again, can I just say that it is absolutely absurd that my friend I'm calling Connor was able to pull that off? Like honestly, that kid is a legend, and he should probably get a raise for the job he doesn't have.
After touring the area for a short while, and my face getting sore from smiling so much, we had to land. After we gave my friend and his dad our thanks, I still had to ask a question I promised at the start of that adventure. I became very nervous "I think it is safe to say that I've fallen head over heels for you. But, I am a man of my word. Izzy Stilnohgetinanam do you hate me?". I was in full panic mode, my heart was beating at a 100 beats per minute, skipping every other beat I was so nervous. I felt light headed, it was one of the scariest moments of my life. "Well..." I think almost died right then and there. I thought "Oh my god have I just taken a girl that doesn't like me on a helicopter ride for her to say she doesn't like me." "This was one of the best nights of my life Calvin, I might just have to call you tomorrow, see what else you have in store." I became overwhelmed with relief.
I swooped in and kissed her. I don't know for sure, but I assume the heavens opened up, a quadruple rainbow appeared and unicorns flew by in perfect sync, because that is what it felt like. Since that day, not a single minute has gone by I didn't think of her. Izzy, you're awesome. I love you, and I will never forget you.
