Can a server get big without paying youtubers at this stage?

Is it even possible for a server to get "Big"(1k players +) without paying youtubers. I'v seen servers hit 50 players average but thats it.

fair enough. It just seems that so many servers fail because they put all there money into youtubers. But servers that don't just never get any players

word of mouth is the best way

I mean anything is possible. If you have a brand new original game mode that nobody else has you might be able to expand upon that.
