Change investments / loans [edited original post]

I think that loans / investments should be removed because of the constant scams with users not paying people back and this is just an easy way for users to scam (and exit scam), get trusted, ask for a big loan or investment, get it, then don't pay back..

No hate please, there's the benefits of this, I know it's the way some people are able to start / fund their servers but if you don't have a job and your own way of income, I suggest you don't start a server, as you'll be screwed once you run out of the investment money.

Also I'd like to add that a lot of people that request investments do it because they don't have money to start a server, and they are expecting enough donations to pay back all their investors. Donations are not guaranteed in any way and then investors aren't paid back if they don't make hundreds of dollars in donations..

Maybe a way to fix some of this, since some people don't like the idea of totally removing it... Make investments have to be approved / denied by staff like scam reports. This way it eliminates the troll posts or the ones that clearly look like scam. Spigot does this and it works fine, and they even have a separate staff member that deals with them.

Also, maybe a requirement for a certain amount of posts before you can request investments? So we don't get those new people with 3 posts asking for a few hundred dollars..

Or even like what Cooltime2 said, move investments to the premium forum.

Not true. I started an investment thread for my upcoming server and received multiple investments. I had most of the money to start it myself, but I couldn't spend all my personal money all at once for it. The purpose of an investment is because you need money to make money. However, I do agree most people here don't know how to properly manage their money. That is not the fault of the business owner, but simply the investor not being wise.

I think that in the public there should be loans section;however, in the premium section you can ask for investments. Another way is to make loans and investments part of premium forum, but we all know it not going happen.

This would be a partial solution, although they most likely won't do it like you said. There's also those ban evaders that think buying premium makes them look trusted, then they go scam, so this may not work either.

I don't know. If you don't want to risk losing money, then don't invest. Simple as that. With that being said, I'm mostly pro-investment, but don't really have an opinion on loans. Maybe cap how much people can ask for in a loan? I just don't feel as though removing both things entirely as a necessary move right now.

Just take your precautions, and you should be fine.

Yeah, the warning is good. Just a way to eliminate the scamming completely would be good. I don't invest because of the risk and I don't have time to deal with people like that, lol. I'm just suggesting it for others sake.

Another solution to avoid this is to set better guidelines or sticky a thread of a guide such as Ivain's on the investment thread section or Corey B ebook about investments or loans.
