Rule 4.5 states: Requiring users to like you on Facebook, follow you on Twitter, subscribe to your YouTube channel, or otherwise connect with you on social media in order to win a contest/giveaway is not allowed.

I think this entire rule should be removed. While some people will complain and say they're lazy, a lot of people would follow someone on a certain media platform in hopes of winning a prize. There is nothing wrong from benefitting from a giveaway. Hosting companies benefit all the time by asking people to advertise for them in their signature. I just see no one being negatively affected by this. I hope you guys understand where I'm coming from on this and I don't get a bunch of 'but I'm too lazy' comments.

Agreed.
MCM needs to stop making so many useless rules. This is honestly very stupid.

Personally,
I would never give away for NOTHING in return.
Getting like 5 subs or 5 followers isn't a big deal, but atleast you get something in return.

It's not a giveaway nor a trade,
It's a raffle-ish?
still, not a giveaway. guess it'll still be allowed-ish under the "contest" part of that section.
But still, Blacksmith made a very valid point. there'd be a lot MORE fake giveaways.

I don't see why there isn't simply
Don't fake giveaways or you'll get banned.

Like everything is made so complex and all. It's stupid tbh.

lawl. agreed. Just make a rule against fake ones
already exists, it just needs to be enforced a bit more strictly. No end dates or goals set? set one or get it locked (at least 1 verbal warning beforehand ofc)

then it's not exactly a giveaway, is it? it's just a trade.
So if I understand correctly, hosting companies should be allow to advertise their companies with a giveaway but asking for people to checkout your social media is completely wrong and shouldn't be allowed? If you disallow one, you should disallow the other. There is no real hardwork being put into following someone's social media. You are not losing anything from following someone. I hope you and the community understand why it would be a good idea to remove this rule.

I never said I approved of the hosting companies doing their giveaways like that. and honestly, I really dont give a shit. If you all want to ramp up your follows on social media accounts so you can sell them for more, go right ahead.

I'll tell you why the rule is in place:

If you look at the archive or history, you'll notice a lot of these giveaways were being made without the winner actually being announced or simply never chosen.

People used this as a nasty way of self promotion on an alternative account and ended up never giving what they promised.

As soon as the rule was added, we definitely noticed a increase of quality within the section.

How about a rule like this.
You have to actually give-away something, but may it may requires someone else to do something to enter.

Please enlighten me further on what you actually intend this to mean.

Understood.

I understand but those people and anyone under that ip are quickly banned. Following a certain social media of someone is not labor intensive and does not require a lot of work or money. If this is disallowed so should any form of gaining something from a giveaway. Such as, for example, the giveaway you did a while back where you asked people to put your signature in theirs. I have no problem with those giveaways but what I'm hearing from you is that a false giveaway would be hard on users because they had to something in order to be entered in to it. Also, some people who disagreed did not have what you said in mind at all. They disagreed because they're lazy and want more giveaways where they have to do absolutely nothing. It's really not that hard to unfollow someone on twitter if they make a fake giveaway. Many users that make giveaways with the intent of gaining followers are usually users who didn't know it was a rule. You also said something about people promoting themselves on an alternate account, however, that's already against the rules in it self so wouldn't those same people still put of giveaways saying to follow their social media?

meaning, that you can have a requirement set if someone wants to enter, BUT you MUST giveaway something,
for example,
I am giving away a name color, in order to enter please subscribe to my channel -> youtube.com/example, and take a screenshot of you subscribed and post it in the comments below! I will pick a RANDOM winner!
that should be allowed, BUT you have to have a winner.
