Change to Gradient Names

Recently, our gracious administrator and supreme leader Mick decided to implement a new name colour which is a rotating colour.

Traditional Gradient:

My suggestion is to make a change to the way we handle charity gradient names, or possibly an addition to gradient names. Instead of the traditional gradient name, we make it a rotating colour between the two colours. While I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, it makes the gradient stand out a bit more in my opinion, but we could also potentially keep the regular gradient name colour as a purchase option?

I'm interested in your thoughts!

The old gradients were purchased for the purpose of looking exactly how they look right now.
Whether or not we personally think it looks better, we should not go changing the products people have already purchased.

That said, I’m actually not totally disgusted by the rotating colors, given how slow they rotate. It’s not annoyingly flashy.

I would be open to the idea of creating a set of higher tier rotating name colors, purchasable on our account upgrades page. However, I would want them to be different from our existing name colors in that they are subscription based in the same way that Ultimate is, and the color will expire if it is not renewed.

This would ensure that if we ever decide that rotating name colors like this no longer suit our needs or goals as a platform, we can stop selling them without worrying about needing to keep them around for past purchasers. It would also add another (albeit small) source of reoccurring income, since the rest of our name colors are not only very low value purchases, but also one time purchases. In other words, the way they’ve been monetized makes them almost insignificant.

Rotating name colors should not be a subscription-based thing if they are just cosmetic.

I really dislike the idea of animated name colours in general. Sure, it's a novelty and it's something new to the site but frankly it doesn't look nice and gives off a cheap competitor vibe, though, admittedly, those places tend to go flashy crazy with their name colours. Even so, though..

Then again, I dislike animations on the web in general because of how prevalent and in your face they are. Absolutely relentless. Constant movement on the screen is distracting and MCM is absolutely not an exception to this (thread designs, signature banners, ads, profile pictures, to name a few). Please don't make this worse. The main place I'm taking about being the main forum list rather than any thread.
And before anyone tells me it won't make a difference to the forum lists, last night when a dozen people bought this rainbow and ended up in recent posts, it absolutely did. It was synchronised and regardless if how slow you could try and make it AND keep it worthwhile, it'll be noticeable.

I personally had issues loading up colors on mobile (eventually worked after a while), I couldn't stand a few minutes in chatbox since I get dizzy really often. So yeah. I'd love some extra gimmick maybe given to ultimate only or perhaps 1 rotating name color such as the MCM rainbow one that Dann had but a whole list of them is just not my cup of tea.

I'm in agreement with @ally on the fact that these animated gradient colours are super ugly and we shouldn't be making them prevalent. Selling animated gradient colours will make our charity gradients less special when they're offered to our community so I'd really rather we don't start offering even more name colours for the sake of more revenue if it'll lead to less raised for charity in our yearly events.
