Charity server - yay or nay

Hey, so I plan on investing into a new server during the next couple months, and one thing I had in mind is a charity server, where a high percentage of the donations go to a different charity each month. I've also had a idea where we could hold tournaments an the winner can choose a charity of there choice, which we will donate 50$ to.

Do you believe this is a good idea? I will be putting a lot of money into advertisements and development, and yes, I do know how to run a server.

What sort of gamemode(s) should there be? Custom, original?(one in the chamber, sg..) or something completely never seen before.

Has been attempted before, but you tend to fimd not many people donate... Idk, it's a bit risky if you ask me.

Yup, donations are going to be the hard thing, however I believe if we make the right gamemodes, maybe do some sort of custom factions ( since factions gets a shit tun of money ), skyblock or something quite mainstream along with the pvp gamemodes, It will be get a lot of people wanting to spend money on it.

Go with what works and is popular.

If you have the money to keep it going incase no one donates then sure it would be a good idea.

Yeah, but there would be little to no ROI, unless you are super generous (which maybe you are), it is still risky.

I will always have money coming in from my other server, however it will be quite rare that no one donates, especially since we are going to do a mainstream gamemode along with the pvp gamemodes.

It's a nice idea, but as other people have said, donations are the issue. However, I love the drive and motivation you have, and I'd love to see people playing just for the basis of charity. Sounds a great idea.

Thanks for your input! Also, I agree, players would be playing since it's for charity, however some will be playing, since it's a minecraft server and it's fun.

Most, if not all the plugin's will be custom, I will be working with Mat (hopefully) and another well-known developer in the community on the actual core's of the plugins and making sure it all works together, so it will be a fun server.

Not the many people will donate, you'll be better of just giving them money that you would spend on the server to charity.

I dont see why you would think that. If people are getting perks, they will be donating.

I am currently running a BO 2 Zombie server. It's pretty new like one week old.
Players that go on love it, it's unique since the plugin is not really out there yet.

I didn't get any donations so far, but that's not really my n.1 goal.
