Now before you all hate on me for wanting these removed, just hear me out.

So there are multiple threads that go around asking for donations to private paypals which claim they will donate it to charity, but why do we need them as middlemen for us? If we want to donate we can just donate to charity ourselves which gives us 0 chance of having them run off with the money?

Like, am I the only one who thinks these threads are just screaming scam and are stupid?

I fully support those who donate to charity but see no need for it on a forum where everyone is money hungry and working to make money. If you disagree I'd love to hear your reasoning so that I can better understand why people would donate to someone just to then donate that money to someone else.

Sure, why don't you donate to a charity now?

Because I don't think many users here would care to look up charities to donate to, and such. As you said
forum where everyone is money hungry and working to make money

Personally i think it should be a rule that they have to post a link to the charities site / where they can donate.

I wouldn't like to think people would scam this way. But this is MCM. Saying they'll donate the money to charity then not. Isn't the worse thing people have been known to do. We've had stories about terminally ill relatives, dogs that will die if they dont get the funds to pay their vets bill etc. Some of which have turned out to be scams.

So i agree, people should donate themselves to the sites, not through someone else. (Unless there is no other way). Should make that into a rule.

Why would you need to know whether I've donated or not? Donating isn't about the glamour of being a good guy so I don't see how this statement is relevant at all. I understand and get the not looking up part, but rather than asking users for it, provide good insight on proper charities and the benefits of them.

While I agree that this is a trend that I really dont like, as people have scammed by running off with the money and there is sort-of a thing going around that you shouldnt talk bad about people "collecting money for the better good", which is idiotic considering the worst-case scenario has happend before of people running off with the money.
I feel like people should be smart enough to not donate if they cant stand the chance of the money not going where it is promised to go. Donating isn't like doing a deal, you're not not getting the money back or getting something in return, so I feel it's abit radical to make a rule against asking for money to a charity.

Of course, if the community could stop calling me a heartless asshole each time I say that people have scammed by collecting charity money and running off, that would be great. This is a business forum, not facebook, You should be able to think worst-case and warn people of it without getting bashed on.

In most states and countries it's illegal to collect money in for a charity without their permission.

Can you link me the threads? They should be reported and removed straight away.

As Bosny said, if someone doesn't have permission to fundraise for a charity report the thread and it will be dealt with.

Thanks.
