Hello!! ^-^
I think being asked what the IP address is quite a common question I get asked when I talk about it and personally being on mobile most of the time at school I find it a bit hard to whisper multiple people. I believe this rule 3.1 (Do not attempt to promote any servers or external websites in shoutbox unless via an MC-Market thread link.) should be slightly altered to make it count as an advertisement but not require you to make a thread attached with the server in question.
Here's a wild Mick being confused about the rule of posting server IP's in chat without a thread. If he gets confused I'm pretty sure non-frequent users would also get confused too! (Much love Mick for answering me <3)

I believe that this can slightly make the user experience just slightly better and make it more enjoyable than it already is!

EDIT: TLDR; This will make an IP address to a server count as an ad but will not require you to post a thread about the server.

Thanks for reading my suggestion, - Jassy Wassy

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

agreed although is there any justification to not extend this rule for any sort of external website/link which has been requested prior by a member in chat?
Thanks for the support!
I only mainly structured this around requesting server IPs alone. I personally don't have any plans to make this about any thing other than just server IPs. You can definitely leave your suggestion and suggest an add-on to my suggestion. :)

I think they should make it so if someone asks for a link or IP you can just send it unless it's spam or a competitor.
I mean, if someone wants to know it what's wrong with just sharing it? You're definitely not aiming to advertise something if people ask you and even if - they wanted it.

We used to be tolerant of when people were asking for the IP, but then we had users abusing that leniency by having their friend group members ask each other for the IP in chat for the sole purpose of circumventing the advertisement restricting rules.
Everyone else caught on and started doing the same, and it became impossible to know what request was genuine, and what ones were meant solely to circumvent advertising restrictions.

In the end, we required it be whispered if someone asks for it. I don’t see why whispering to whoever asks is so difficult that we would need to re-open the can of worms we closed, and allow people to post it publicly if asked.

Exactly why I proposed it count as an ad in my original suggestion. You will be unable to "spam" this and circumvent the current advertisement rules. This is suggestion is suggesting that an IP in chat counts as an ad so you may post it every 20 minutes without a thread.

A situation I can see myself and other users in,
"Everyone join my server! <Ip here> There is a special giveaway going on for $50!"
This would allow us to not circumvent any MC-Market rules but allow us to advertise our server. You will be unable to post this more than once. So even if a group of friends ask the IP you may not post it twice or else you will break the rule 3.4

I hope you can see the angle I'm trying to convey here. Counting IP addresses to a server as an ad but not require a thread to go along with the server.

I don't wanna read this but if jasmine suggested it, its a good idea.

Mc-Market is dying. Listen to the <censored(???)>
not sure why that censored

TLDR; This will make an IP address to a server count as an ad but will not require you to post a thread about the server.

Here's a shortened version! I also had to clear some things up as I feel like I was drunk when writing the original suggestion and wasn't able to get my initial points across clearly.

I agree with Justis. This was already a discussion topic a while back, no point in re-opening it. If a friend is asking you for the IP, simply whisper it to them. Mick has stated that even staff, while possible through back-end sys methods, do not view whisper messages as they believe it impedes on privacy. If you have a give-away, or some other server event, or just wish to advertise, then make a thread and link it in the SB. This gives more context to whatever you are advertising rather than giving a blank slate. Current rulings on this suggestion are optimal imo.

This is a simply quality of life change to the ruling. Either multiple people you have to whisper.
I do understand why it would be denied. I just thought I'd make it as a suggestion :)

It isn't difficult to click their name and CTRL+V. The reason for preventing publicly announcing it in the shoutbox was to discourage users from spam advertising their server every 20 minutes with low-effort/quality messages. Most users here on MCM have some relation to a server they wish to be advertised. It makes more sense and weeds out those who don't put in the effort to advertise it by requiring a thread or making them whisper it.

Totally unrelated to this suggestion (I agree by the way, Jasmine).

“Mc-Market is dying. Listen to the og -users-” 2018 is not OG but go off bro. And even then, what does time on the forum have to do with how the site should be ran? Anyone can suggest meaningful suggestions, doesn’t take a 2015 member to realize that the site in it’s current state is more then flawed.
