Installation is NOT "Minecraft ready". It like putting a car on "cruise control" and not actually driving it. Honestly he just better off leaving it to the professionals for his peace of minds.

You can use the promo code "laststop" at ExtraVM and that'll bring the price down to $2.70/GB/month. You might be better off running a small VPS (my OpenVZ start at $3/m) so you can install or change the Java versions and whatnot if you're developing plugins, and so much more in general.
