Hey!

If anyone has any experience claiming a Twitter account, please DM me!

To give content, there is an inactive (hasn't been used in 10 years) Twitter account with the same name as my business, I wish to claim it, the account previously belonged to someone who owned the domain as my domain is listed on the Twitter account.

The account hasn't been used in a decade, hence why I want to try and claim instead of just creating an alternative account, as it represents a business and has my domain listed I am trying to claim directly through Twitter as I have been told claiming an account representing a business is more likely that a personal account, I am not hopeful though as I can't seem to get to a real person.

I really don't want to go through the paperwork of registering a trademark.

IMPORTANT: I am not looking to claim this through illegal or immoral methods! Only legitimate methods, please! I will not entertain anybody who suggests an illegal method.

Thanks

I tried this before, I don't think its physically possible without registering a trademark, even then its not guaranteed. I'd say just try changing up some things on the name, so like if your domain was inferno.com, set the twitter to InfernoCom or whatever, only options id say.

I have no problem registering a different Twitter handle, it wouldn't match other socials but that isn't a huge issue.

It's more that if I can get it, that's ideal, especially as it's displaying my domain and company name so could be mistaken as our official Twitter.

Twitter said on their email when the claim was automatically rejected to contact them again if the account represents a company so I am hoping to get somewhere with that. I have also heard that if you have X amount of followers you are most likely to get through to a human in the first instance so somebody may have an inside contact!

Try registering an LLC with the name and claim it

Update for anybody in future. Twitter has come back again and said they would give me the username so success!

It was surprisingly simple, as long as the account is clearly inactive and you are representing a brand or company, they may release it. It probably did help though that my website domain was on the account I wanted.
