what records do i need to set to get mail on my webhost

The DNS records you would need to add is a MX record. Name value would be @ and for the mail server you would be the cpanel control link. EX: webnode.yourhost.net. Mail server would be webnode.yourhost.net, be sure to make the priority 1.
