So in december, I purchased an IBM x3550 M3, I added Dual Intel Xeon X5687's @ 3.6-3.86GHz~, 8 Cores / 16 Threads. I loaded the system up with 128GB DDR3 ECC @ 1333MHz, and 4 x 850 EVO 250GB SSDs in RAID 1-0. I am looking for co-location, I live in the Clark County area so I figured this one data-center in vegas would not be too far of a drive, about 20 Miles. It has great plans, for a great price but I also know of things like psychz and volumedrive, any good co-location suggestions on the western side of united states or central, nothing eastern?

I was going to use this, since the data-center is only about 20 miles away, any other suggestions? http://www.fiberhub.com/single-server-colocation/

I was going to use the single server colo plan.

Standard Server Colo Plan – $69
  • Up to 2U of Rack Space*
  • 2A / 120V Power w/ Remote Reboot, 1 outlet
  • 10TB Route-Optimized Bandwidth – Gig-E Port
  • 5 IP Addresses / Private VLAN
  • 10Gbps / 2Mpps DDoS Protection Included
  • No Setup Fees!
AVAILABLE ADD-ON’S AND UPGRADES

  • – Upgrade to 25TB Bandwidth / Gig-E Port – $25/m
  • – Upgrade to 50TB Bandwidth / Gig-E Port – $50/m
  • – Upgrade to 100TB Bandwidth / Gig-E Port – $100/m
  • – Upgrade to 1000Mbps Dedicated Unmetered Bandwidth – $250/m
  • – Additional Switch Port for IPMI / DRAC / iLO – $5/m
  • – Additional Power, per Amp @ 120V – $20/m
  • – Additional IP Addresses – $0.50/m per IP (justification required)
I will be using this server for a VM node. I was considering selling on here, but not sure if anyone would be interested.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

I agree with the CPU, because they're a bit outdated, but the clock speed and core count is still great, these cpus run about $70 still, sometimes more, they are still great hardware for high clock speed services like microsoft sql servers. I need two power cables, so I am going to contact them and see if a splitter is possible, as the system has redundant power supplies, I need no remote hands, I can drive to the data center myself, and I need about 300-400 watts of power. I have all rail kits and everything, the server was pulled from a working data center. I need about 5-10TB bandwidth, and at least 5Gbps DDoS Protection. I am considering using this for a remote rendering server, remote backup, and just awesome vmware system. I will also be hosting some Chat servers on vms on it as well. It is a licensed ESXI 6.5.0 machine. with 1TB RAID 10 SSD, and I added an additional 2TB HDD storage.

So I will need 5-10 ips, basic DDoS mitigation, no remote hands, 5-10TB bandwidth, 5-10 ips, don't really need ipv6, 1 rack unit, and 1Gbps connection.

You can try Psychz if you want, if you contact them they can probably give you a bit more bandwidth / DDoS protection. They allow Y-splitters as well, so that won't be a problem.

If you're looking for a cheaper option, I believe you can try to work out a deal with Ian.D. He has multiple cabs with Psychz, and he may be willing to rent out some colo space for a much cheaper price.

My only concern with that would be that shipping will be quite a bit, and I have invested nearly $1000 in this machine, I would not want it to be in the control/hands of someone else like Ian, I know he is trusted, but I would prefer not to do that, and I also do not want any middle man issues.

Based on my past experience, shipping would most likely be between $50-$100 if you go with FedEx, and colocation will be $69-$79 per month if you go directly with Psychz, depending on the deal you get.

Dallas is pretty cheap for collocation with Psychz. The 10U plan gives you room to expand should you want to...

I have a feeling you might exceed that 2A power limit though and they will charge you for that excess.

So before you ship it anywhere make sure of the power it uses. The datacenter should be able to test this for you as well.

You're using RAID0 if you're seeing 1TB of storage from just the SSD's.

Psychz will be the cheapest solution for you with their Dallas location.

If you care about your servers NEVER, I MEAN NEVER give them to VolumeDrive. When I first got into hosting I used them and they damaged/stole over $2,000 worth of servers and have terrible up time. The owner Josh will lie to you to make a sale and throw you away when done. As for middle man issues, you realize Psychz is a middle man right? They rent space from the datacenter and do not have any techs on site, you deal with opening a ticket with them, then they open a ticket with the datacenter. Shipping on that server should be less than $100 including insurance. If you ever need it our colocation starts at $35/month and we have a tech in Dallas and have been a registered business since 2014.

Let me rephrase that, unlike Psychz who hires the datacenter for all of their work, we have a tech on stand-by to do work in Dallas along with the datacenter technicians. Our company has multiple system administrators and support staff though most work remotely as they are not needed in the datacenter.

Yeah, we are smaller but we do have many racks and have other colocation clients. One of the main benefits is, when our staff is on standby, our remote hands is $60/hour. With Psychz their standard price is $125/hour on remote hands.

Psychz doesn't hire the data center staff ................. I'm not sure if Jimmy the Dallas operations executive is on this forum but he should be able to clarity that.

Who do you collocate through in Dallas directly through carrier1 or through one of the big wholesale sellers within like Psychz, Incero and Dallas Colo?

Yes they do, Psychz uses Carrier-1 staff to do remote hands work for them.
