Hey guys.

I am a 16 year old boy from England that has been coding with the bukkit API for 2.5 years.

I want to be a computer science teacher / games programmer as my dream job and I would love to start my teaching here. I currently have one pupil who really enjoys and is inspired by java just like I was when I was younger.

I charge 20$ per hour and we can work on anything (the basics to the hardest/most complex code).

I also offer group lessons which cost 10$ per person. 2 people is classed as a group to me up to an unlimited amount.

If you already do bukkit but want help with a certain section I can also give you a session on that.

Add me on skype if your interested: twitchtvswaggg

Ask any questions about my lessons on this thread, I will get back to you asap!

Thanks,
Tom

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

That is a terrible lesson plan. If he just jumps into writing plugins he will be clueless as to what is happening and will end up blindly writing code because someone told him to without actually understanding it.
Yea I agree you should first start by teaching Java in general not just minecraft Java plugins.

I understand what your saying here, but most people here want to develop for mc, therefore I want to focus on mc as the Api I believe contains a lot of the key methods you have to use when coding general Java.

Skionz: If people want lessons on how to code, I will teach them how to code and will obviously explain what each individual word does. I don't understand how you think I will not explain what each function does one by one... Honestly I'm seeing this as more of a personal attack than advice - it's as if you don't want me to get pupils.[/COLOR]

You can't develop for MC unless you know Java. Honestly, you are right. I don't want you to get pupils because I don't think you are as good at Java, or "Minecraft coding" as you say you are; however, nobody has ever seen your code so I can't tell. I would be glad to vouch if you actually write quality code. For the record, the Bukkit API does not contain any of the "key methods you have to use when coding general Java."

I don't particularly want to release my best code as I may start a server with it. I could code a task someone set me... Also, you can program with the bukkit api (fyi I call this minecraft developing aka developing for minecraft for short as some people don't know what bukkit is when they start) without knowing any Java as this is how I learnt. This also gave me the core to learn c# and vb very well (the structure of the code and what certain things do such as arrays) that is why I believe I am right in saying that bukkit contains SOME of the key methods that are used in a variety of languages.

The language contains the predefined functions and data structures such as arrays, it's just that you may use it whilst writing a plugin.

Learning Java first is always what I recommend to anyone who wants to get started as it helps them understand why and how Bukkit does what it does.

Yeah I know, but some people operate in different ways. I believe doing the fun stuff is always better and it gets them "hooked" into programming In which builds them up for learning Java / other languages. I find it rude when people just say "That is a terrible lesson plan" etc.... I hope you understand. I will also be explaining what each word does as I said earlier and I will say if that word is in the bukkit Api or if it can also be used in Java

The issue here is that we still don't know if you even are decent at Java yourself. You say that you learned Bukkit before Java which adds even more doubt. Your going to use your "best code" for your server? How about you just release some of your other projects then. You have to have a project laying around that you are not going to use.

I've spent 5 hours of lessons with this user. Every hour has been worth it. Any questions I have he answers quickly, and I understood everything I was doing. I've already made a lot of very helpful + some fun plugins for my build teams server.

Dream job as a Java teacher:

> charge $25/hour
> get a client
> make them pay upfront
> send them link to Codecademy.
> wait several hours for them to learn basic Java
> say job done.
Haha :) Everyone wishes jobs would be this easy!

And how much did you pay?
25$/hour (I have only just lowered this to 20$ for a private lesson and 10$ for a group)

Thanks - I am glad you have enjoyed the lessons so far and hope you continue to in the future :)
