Do you guys run ProtocolLib on your server? If so, do you mind if plugins are dependent on ProtocolLib, or are you guys fine with it depending on it?

I am just asking this as I've seen quite a few people complain about how the X plugin relies on ProtocolLib, but I see no point in complaining considering like 90-95% of public servers out there use ProtocolLib in some shape, or form. So why does it matter if a plugin is dependent on it or not? What would you gain out of complaining that a plugin relies on it?

Thanks.

There's nothing wrong with using ProtocolLib, not sure why anyone would be complaining.

Protocolib is for spigot beginners to easily work with packets. Anyway that's not the best solution most of the time and people doesn't use packets too much except for different apis and system such as multi arenas/anticheat. You obviously will get lower performances with protocolib.

If you complain about using ProtocolLib you shouldn’t be running a server

Honestly protocollib is fine and it makes working with packets much easier than it has to be if people can't handle it they shouldint be running a server, as for

You are quite incorrect, protocollib used properly will not lower performance

I have used it since I started making servers at like 13 years old, never ever seen it cause an issue or break anything. In my eyes its as essential as a bans plugin and my perms plugin

I mean let’s say not any noticeable performance issues, unless you are doing something wrong
if you are using a multi arena system that use protocolib to cancel sound or items visibilities packets u will get lower performance because In reality you don't need to even create a list that blacklist certains items that you want or even to cancel anything :)

let’s say you use it to cancel sounds and hide players and stuff like that, it will get you at it maximum 2 or 3% down performance no more as long as you do it correctly, and as I said the performance drop will be so low that it won’t be even noticeable
