Hello again,

Yesterday (technically today) I made a suggestion thread about creating a new community SMP server for MC-Market users to play on for the next few weeks and months. That suggestion thread received a massively positive response, far more excited for a community server than I was expecting which is always good to see.

Now that we're certain that we all want a community server, the next step is for us to now decide what sort of server we want to make it. In the previous suggestion, I briefly mentioned either a vanilla server or economy, but I'll go more into depth about each option and leave it up to a community vote to see what you would prefer.

OPTION 1 -- VANILLA
This is the more simple option and would likely be faster for us to be able to release to the public. A vanilla server would have no functionality or features that change gameplay, and the only plugins on the server will be:
  • An anticheat plugin to stop those pesky hackers
  • A fancy anti-xray plugin to stop those pesky xrayers
  • A chest protection plugin such as Lockette for players to prevent other people from opening chests that they own
  • A land protection plugin such as GriefPrevention to stop people fricking with your beautiful house
  • The username plugin we used on the UHC event, which allows us to set your in-game username to be identical to your on-site username.
Other than those plugins, we would not add any other features to the server, it would simply be a fun hard mode 1.15.2 server without even giving access to /tpa or /home or /warp or /spawn. Very vanilla.

OPTION 2 -- ECONOMY
Many of us on this website are veteran Minecraft players who have beat the game fully dozens of times by now, and completely vanilla might not stay fun for very long. This option is really focused on farming and making a profit through an economy-driven server and more functionality which should theoretically make the game have more content to achieve and more to do. This option would contain all of the plugins of the vanilla server, along with:
  • Justis' AutoEconomy plugin which balances the price of items based on the server’s supply and demand while always ensuring that items derived from other items have their prices proportionately derived from them. By matching market worth with our real-time gameplay and actual economic development, we properly represent the community’s collective progress, encourage full use of the world and we avoid the economic downfall of many servers where prices are static and abuse of the most easily farmed item(s) is unavoidable. The system is far more complex than I am able to explain it in a short paragraph, so I'd recommend that you take a gander at Justis' appraisal thread he made for the plugin here.
  • Chest shops allowing for players to create their own shops to sell items for money
  • Essentials, with players being given many of the standard commands such as /home, /tpa, etc. No /fly. Maybe we could allow people to /setwarp for a price?
  • Possibly mcMMO to allow people to grind for levels if that's the sort of thing that interests them. If we have mcMMO and an economy perhaps we could provide rewards at the end of the first month to the player who has the highest mcmmo level and most money? That could be fun and interesting.
  • A whole bunch of smaller miscellaneous plugins that might slightly liven things up a bit, such as ChatReaction giving the first person to say a certain phrase $x.

Regardless of which server we make, we will be opening it to any MC-Market users who are Premium or above and probably for around 2 months. After that point, we will offer the world download to anyone who wants it to continue playing.

If anyone has any more specific ideas of what to add I'd love to hear them, and I can keep updating this original post with more ideas as more people come up with things to add. Since this is a community server I'd really like for us to be able to come up with a server that will be fun for as many people to play as possible.

I look forward to hearing your input and making this server with you all :)

I just don't want you to have /tpa on the server. Minecraft travel is a very unique thing that players should experience to get from one place to another. They are many forms of travel elytra, boat, minecart, flying matching, walking, sprinting; it may be tedious to travel somewhere to see your friend instead of a 5 second /tpa command but that's just the fun of it. I'm saying this if economy, which will probably be the victor, is what the server is based around.

This makes a lot of sense. I know how resource-intensive 1.15 can be, and using EWG certainly wouldn't help that. We'll stick with vanilla for this server and see how we go with that.

We'll see how this server goes now, and if there are still a bunch of people playing at the end of the 2 months we can look into creating a new one with improvements, but in all honesty I don't see this as being too likely.

Pretty sure that you can re-spawn the dragon in 1.15 and you can buy dragon eggs from the server shop, so I'm not too sure how successful your plan will be, but it's a cool thought!

What would you prefer?

I disagree that opening this up to all users who meet that requirement would result in much more activity. Ultimately our server isn't going to be the most amazing setup for people to play on, but our community is going to enjoy it because you get to play with other MC-Market people. Someone without Premium (and who is unwilling to purchase it to play) likely isn't going to stick around long enough on the server to make any noticeable difference to the playerbase. Essentially putting a $10 price on being able to join means that the only people who are going to play are people who have something to lose if they hack on the server and get banned from it. I don't think that there are many active members of our community with a decent amount of posts and who have been here for 6 months without Premium anyway.

Yeah definitely, I get where you're coming from. Right now the plugins that we have are as follows:

Does anyone have any other recommendations for what could be added to make the server more interesting to play on without being too packed full of features in a way that might ruin the fun of it? The only other plugins I know I want to add are Justis' AutoEconomy and an anti-xray.

this makes me want to try and make a good old server. hope it goes well

If you guys are gonna do this on 1.15. Don't use EWG because of lag from both plugin and server version.

1.15 is actually really stable for servers, if optimised correctly the only lag will be from EWG.

A lot of big 1.15 servers (most of them are optimized) are struggling to get 18+ TPS on 50+ player servers. Mick also said that he will host it in Pebblehost, which is probably E3 or E5 since most of the shared host are using those processors (except if he will use the premium option thing)

Justis did an amazing job coding that plugin and I truly believe that works wonders. I'll endorse it 100000%. <3

Xiri's server can handle 20TPS 30~ players. Yeah it starts to dip after, and as I personally run a snapshot server(latest SS) in vanilla yall dont know how bad vanilla is lmao. 20TPS for 50 players is actually pretty good, and I doubt Micks server is gonna have 50~ players as a constant. I would really recommend 1.15 lol

I prefer economy. Not really for it to be a super grindy farming gamemode like Skyblock (because I hate modes like that, including Skyblock, on every server except a cracked server I played 3-4 years ago), but the Chest Shop type of local market is something I've seen fall heavily out of style that I'd like to see come back.

In regards to the plugin list a few suggestions are a claiming plugin to claim land. Many survival servers have it. Secondly, on top of having just an SMP do in-game events weekly or bi-weekly maybe for rewards on forums or an in-game tag. Lastly, this has nothing to do with the SMP but in the future you could do a network and create a MC-Market Anarchy server basically the opposite of survival SMP. :)

We have now released our MCM Community SMP at play.mc-market.org and decided on going with an economy system rather than vanilla.

Thanks for your feedback everyone, much appreciated. I'll move this to accepted.
