Don't feel like reading 2 pages of replies, but are you sure the USB on your monitor isn't just a pass through so you can plug shit into your monitor? I've only ever seen a few USB signaled monitors and they were total crap. Poor latency and limited brightness.
The difference between type A and B has nothing to do with anything but the shape of the connector. Type A is the common flat connector that is on like 95% of USB stuff, and type B is the square connector that you don't see often anymore. I have a scanner that uses Type B. Improvements in bandwidth are based on the revision. Like USB 1, 2.1, 3, etc.
