I saw on Namemc 'Suitcases' was dropping and I guessed it could be a cool IGN for my alt, so I decided to change it. As soon as it came available however I couldn't snipe it. On NameMC it says that it was 'blocked', I have no idea why it's offensive in any way, or can be considered a 'swear word'..

I know that Cheerful's sniper blocks names right before the snipe goes down, and makes it so you can not hand snipe it.

I doubt anyone would do this as it only had 10 views on namemc lol

It's hard to do. That is why not everyone does it. I do not know much about it, however since there are only two known companies, or people that can do this I am assuming it is not easy to do, and do it correctly.

Surely, as they are abusing Mojang's services in order to block names which are not meant to be blocked, Mojang could take down their website? They are already breaking the TOS I believe.

No, they can not. Cheerful has been around for years, and if Mojang has not caught it yet, then they must be doing something right. It is not breaking their TOS from what I understand, as it only blocks the name for a few seconds. And, in essence, it is permitted. As, they would not be doing it if it was not allowed. I am sure they found a loop hole that makes this legal.

However, I do not know enough to really give you a good answer.

tl;dr: We block MC igns now, since it is more cost-effective than paying for captchas to change IGNs etc.

The name remains blocked for 24 hours after it is blocked, and you can only claim the IGN on the account that blocked it. After 24 hours, the name simply becomes unblocked. In some cases, where the account is OG and we've not been given credentials for it, we'll continue to re-block the name until the credentials are provided (aka just re-queuing the name to re-block at the unblock time).

Once 24 hours has passed, there's a 99.9999999% chance the name would have already been claimed on the account that blocked it.
