High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Minecraft loves single thread so an i7 4790k and i7 7700k are likely the best choices for you. Next best would be an E3v5 processor of 1240v5 or better.

The better single threaded performance the better it'll be.

You don't have to try to teach me anything. Xeons are charged more for since they are generally (thought not always) capable of more (especially the ones with higher core counts and threads - they can be used for virtualisation).

Minecraft servers run great on i7-6700k's, and there is absolutely no reason to upgrade when it's not needed. The i7-6700k is one of the best for Minecraft servers, and you're stupid if you spend hundreds/thousands on a Xeon which is possibly capable of less (or even the same).

Just because something is aimed at consumers (i.e. PC builders), that doesn't mean it's shit for other audiences (such as businesses who need servers).

I can agree, the i7 has its place in the minecraft market. Its a desktop CPU, that is put in datacenter conditions. Many servers run great on the i7.

I can see other markets avoiding the i7 because its not a server grade CPU, which I understand and I agree with that decision. However, I don't see any reason the minecraft market should avoid this CPU.

If it really bothers you, go with a E5-15XXv2/3 or go with a E3v3/5 that has high single thread performance.

Even if you're paying more, i7's with higher clocks will outperform E5's and even E3's with lower clocks when you're benching single threaded apps. Even if i7's were not meant to be ran 24/7 on full load, that's not really your problem if you're RENTING hardware, just make sure you have backups if something happens (but it usually won't).

Businesses have hundreds of thousands, millions, or even billions of dollars they can blow away. We as consumers must make compromises.

The performance that an i7-4790k/6700k/7700k offers is a far greater benefit than having assurance that your processor has an ever so slightly chance of failing. It's very rare to hear of a processor that has failed these days, unless it is due to improper use such as overclocking/overheating.

I've numbered your questions and I'll go through my reasonings.

1) Minecraft thrives on single thread. For the maximum performance possible you would be looking at an i7 4790k or i7 7700k. I'm not sure why you're sat here pleading your case that Xeon's are better in every aspect. There's a reason these are used in the Minecraft industry and that's because they offer the absolute best single threaded performance.

2) Once again, Minecraft thrives on SINGLE THREAD performance. You're sat here trying to educate web hosts on hardware and I'm not sure why? It's highly unlikely he will be running 4 CPU cores 24/7.

3) Yes - I understand you've recommended a server grade CPU but you don't seem to understand that Minecraft THRIVES on single thread and that is why people select i7 processors. Not to mention they can be overclocked for far greater performance.

While your recommendations aren't necessarily bad, you still don't understand hardware as good as you think when it comes to this.

Do you think big brand companies like OVH would run i7 4790k's overclocked if they felt the lifespan was reduced greatly by being in a server environment? The answer is no. I'm not trying to sound rude but please don't try and educate people if you don't understand yourself. It creates misinformation and helps no one.
