I've been out of server development for a while, but I'm considering creating one again, are minecraft servers still worth creating? If so, what gamemodes are popular? Are there any discords that are for server owners or development teams?

I strongly believe there is a room for proper server for sure. The things you can do with Minecraft plugins are amazing comparing how boring it used to look couple years back in 1.8 as example. I am talking about custom textures and such. Of course if you will do a next SkyBlock server that doesn't stand out well you most likely won't get huge amount of players. However if you will have a good unique idea for how to make a server more enjoyable and a good budget for proper development & advertisement I believe you have a good chance of succeeding.
