Hi,

There are a few plugins out there that can be used to create nicer looking maps than vanilla terrain, like EWG and Terrain control. I'm currently working on a project that may need a custom plugin like these coding with various features. Roughly to the same quality level as EWG.

I would expect this to cost quite a lot for someone to make, however I'm curious how much exactly. Don't reply if you're not a plugin developer, I'm looking for genuine estimates.

Well that was just example, you can make any map with WorldPainter..?
Yes, but I'm looking for the price of a custom plugin.

I'm no developer, but something like that could EASILY be in the thousands. The amount of development time put into EWG is insane, fr.

EWG is 3.9MB which is EXTREMELY large. We are talking hundreds to thousands of dollars. This is because you need to first of all, code the plugin. You need builds, trees, etc...

As mentioned by ben1122a, Realistic World Generator is an alternative. While it is still in Alpha or at least the early stages it might just be worth taking a deeper look into!

EWG uses publicly available trees. Mostly those by Plutouthere and Kenofox, from what I have seen.

As the others have said, this may take a LOT of money. Especially to get it on par with EWG.
However, basic terrain generation may not be TOO much. I've seen code for MCEdit filters, making a plugin for those should not be impossible.
Shame I suck at programming so far, I haven't learned nearly enough Java to give it a shot.
Still, procedural generation is something I'm interested in, so who knows eh?
