Hello, I am Tristan, and I represent Hosting-Folks.
I just wanted to talk to you about what is best for your server if you want to go big time.

Let us discuss the three types of servers that you can use.

1. Shared hosting
Shared hosting is what Almost every host offers. They have their clients crammed onto machines, with no room to breath, with lots of people hosting their minecraft servers off it. If lots of peoples servers are being run and stressing the CPU, This will stress your server and slow it down.

2. VPS server.
A VPS server gives you a bit more freedom, You can host your server and your website on it, But it requires knowledge of system administration to use, There are less people on your machine, and it wont stress you as much. These are generally more expensive, but being able to host your server and website accounts for that price.

3. Dedicated server
A dedicated server is your own machine. No one else has access to it, Nothing anyone else does can affect your server. These are generally expensive, and contain high amounts of ram, So you can host lots of servers on it. This is what Hosts use.

In short, It goes like this.
Shared hosting is like sharing a house with someone, What they do affects you, they break the plumbing? affects you,
A VPS server is like an apartment, Not your own house, but you have more freedom, You have to pay for your own rent etc. Your plumbing is your own.
A dedicated server is like your own house, Everything is yours.

Now, What is best for your server?
If you are running a server for you and your mates, Shared hosting is fine, but If you want to run a server that you plan to be large, Then you cannot start with something small. If you start with a VPS, You can get ram added easily, and keep expanding, With shared hosting the limit of which you can upgrade your ram to is lower, With VPS servers, You can generally increase your ram a lot.

If you are a server which plans to go very big very quickly, and has a high budget, I would definitely suggest a dedicated server. This means that you can easilydo anything you want without ANY restrictions on you, except maybe some bandwidth restraints.

servers sizes:
1-20 players = shared hosting
20-200 players = VPS
200+ players = dedicated

Thank you very much for reading, and If you would like to talk to a host about any of this, make sure to join our discord at https://discord.hosting-folks.com

I wouldnt say this is true. Iv hosted a few private server on shared hosting with 30-40+ people playing.

Here a good idea of how players per server work.

For vanilla and low end servers:
1gb ram = 8-12 players
2gb ram = 16-24 players
3gb ram = 24-36 players

And so on

For servers with plugins, maps, and more:
This mostly depends on the processor you have, I have used VPS servers capable of holding 120+ players on 16 gigs of ram. Lower end CPU's tend to stress and give you troubles. But you should compensate 500MB of ram PER WORLD if you have multiple worlds.

You can say that, a loaded server should have a decent processor such as a Xeon X or Xeon E series. If you want to host 50+ players with a lot of plugins, maps, and more.

Iv picked this up from places like LowEndTalk, and I have spoken to many host owners.

Hope this helps, just my take on things!

This is just a suggestion for the best performance possible,
If you want to make the server the best possible.

These days, if you aren't going for the best possible, your server won't do so well.

People like to hear that the servers they join are being ran on high end machines.

But yes, you are right.

VPS's are usually more expensive than Shared, because most types of VPS (KVM), require dedicated RAM, which is something you won't get from shared hosts.
