The Deep web and The Dark web are two different things.
The Deep web (through tor) is there to make yourself pretty much "anonymous". Whilst also being able to access another website extension .onion - yadda yadda yadda it's basically to do with encryption and privacy and so many hidden services you won't find on the "normal" internet, you'd find on there.
However, the DARK web is to do with all the fucked up shit, redroom, cp etc. Which if you know what you're doing, you're gonna be safe from viewing regardless. Either way, a bunch of videos on youtube about the dark web state that most of the websites are usually locked to specific users and accounts are purchasable through bitcoin and all that.
So as long as you're not actively searching for all the bad stuff, you're going to be fine on the deep web. However, that doesn't mean you're always going to be safe.
Personal Experience:
My personal experiences with the deep web was basically me just checking it out as I was like "WOAH, The internet as we know it, is a lot more than I expected" and it really sparked my interest at the time. (Watching youtube videos on it and all that). So I decided to check it out for myself. I went on the hiddenwiki through the official onion link (which can change over time) and went around and searched. I stumbled upon a fuck load of stuff to do with wikileaks/how tos and just information regarding human rights/laws as well as all those hidden gun stores/hiring hitmen/drug stores etc.
After a while, I was like.. I don't think I should really be on here. Put it this way, it was a curiosity killed the cat situation and I didn't want to see how far I could go (deep web wise) before I reached the fucked up shit.
Overall it was fun to see what websites there were, but at the end of the day, be careful. Don't click the wrong links and don't let your curiosity get to you and you'll be pretty fine for the most part on the deep web/TOR Browser.
