Hello,

I need as much help as I can get with this. I would like to learn programming. I mainly want to learn c++ and java. If there is anyone who knows those languages, please can you tell me where to start. I have used code academy, but it hasn't really taught me anything I can use to continue. If there are any books, or anything whatsoever that can help me, please tell me. I know that people do lessons, but I don't want to pay for lessons constantly if I can buy a book and use it whenever I feel like it.

Thanks
Will

Hey there.

I actually went to college for computer science (programming) and have been messing with MC plugins for a few years now. Being completely honest, I learned more through YouTube and forums than I did in college classes and textbooks. Some good YouTube channels I found were "thenewboston" and "ProgrammingKnowledge". The StackOverflow forums are great - tons of helpful developers on there willing to help anyone that has questions. And if your coding questions are Minecraft related, the Spigot, Forge and Sponge forums (depending on the platform you're using) are full of devs willing to help. I'd recommend using these free resources before putting money into books.

Sorry, this won't let me post links yet, else I'd just give you the links to all their channels.... -_-

(When you have a question or error or problem, just google "java ..." and you can usually find the solution easily.)

Hope those help!

I was going to type a rant but decided against it.
Don't ask how to learn it, figure it out for fuck sake.

As I said, I am unsure where I should look for advice and help, rather than investing into someone or something. I am sure my thread did no harm to you at all so please do not come here and curse at me.
Thanks for your help.[DOUBLEPOST=1491345589][/DOUBLEPOST]I'm 13. I'm not half as independent as I will be in 5 years time. I'm looking for help. Nobody just knows how to do something so please respect that. If you are going to be of no use to me, click off of this thread. I don't understand what the problem with asking for help is, rather than sitting there for an hour or two when the answer is right here.[DOUBLEPOST=1491345703][/DOUBLEPOST]

No. Stop asking people how to learn. That's a task for you, not for other people to spoonfeed.

As I've said in multiple other posts by idiots, I hate sitting next to morons at work who interrupt me every 5 minutes because they lack independent learning. Don't be one of those people. Don't be an idiot.

Go to Google. Figure it out yourself and you'll flourish. If you ask people how to do shit, you're going to fail - that's how it works. Independent learning is the most important skill in programming.

No problem! Happy to help. I definitely needed help back when I got started, so I'm more than happy to pay that favor forward. Thenewboston isn't someone I've looked at for many years now, but I do remember his tutorials being fast and sometimes difficult to keep up with. I'd start with ProgrammingKnowledge. Basically, just start with YouTube and Google. You'll find some devs that are more... adept... at teaching than others. But ultimately, you'll find your way to being comfortable with coding as long as you stick with it. All the devs I know, and myself included, know most of what they know through self teaching via YouTube and google searches. Just dive in; you'll find your way.

Good luck!
